Do you think it would be organised that casually? I'd have thought it would need to be arranged with the producer/director of each show rather than presenters/guests. It could mess up ITV1's competition if there wasn't a proper agreement in place, even if it was just verbal one. There needs to be someone to make sure the character was available on the correct day, placed on the set and the shot framed so that viewers can see it.
Could you trust a presenter to do it?
No - but if a presenter is the person who asks an Editor or Exec to do it it might have more welly than just an e-mail, phone call or letter from another company, at least in the first instance. I'm not suggesting that the presenters smuggle the knitted character on set - it is obviously approved.

How many of the shows the character features on have on-screen talent who have Avalon (who make Harry Hill) as their agents I wonder?
