I'm shocked to see there's no thread for the return of Harry Hill tonight in TV Burp, so thought I'd do it myself so we can see how the series builds week to week.

What did we think of this weeks first episode then? I thought it was an 'okay' start to the series... seen better, seen worse...

Highlights Include:
- Stephen Fry 'Kakapo' Segment
- Nick Jordan Celebration
- Hole in the Wall De-Celebration
- Dating in the Dark

Its too early to say its gone down hill, but it does seem to be appealing to more of a mainstream audience now, which was apparent last series anyway.

I enjoyed todays show, I do wish Corrie/Eastenders and other more popular programmes were featured however. Good to see more pre-rec sequences too with Harry 'joining in', such as the X Factor Kandy Rain clip.

Seems to have lost its edge. At the start of its ninth series, I suppose it was coming.
If truth be told the only things I really liked from the last series was the attention seeking door, Knitted Character on the jelly and the Eoghan Quigg skits. The rest I really wasn't fussed about.

On the back of the first episode, if the Kakapo returns it'll probably get irritating after a while. That being said, it's only the first episode and the show's on until at least Dec 5th, so let us see before we judge too harshly.

I missed it (what a surprise Laughing) but to be fair, if there is any "problems" with it then it's partially down to what's on TV at the time. In order for the show to be funny it needs the material that's on in the week to compliment it, if there's bugger all on then the show isn't up to standard unfortunately.

This series runs to the end of March.

I thought tonight's show was pretty average. Harry was on POG last week and I got the impression he's getting fed-up with TV Burp now. There comes a point at which shows like this become too self-aware of their own success and inevitably it ends up turning into a caricature of itself. TV Burp's starting to go that way now I think.

If you missed it last night you can catch it tonight with a surprising peak time repeat on ITV-1 this Sunday night at 06.45pm.

6.7m last night - just 1.3m below Strictly, which got an average of 8m. The X Factor got 11.3m.

The first episode of a new series always becomes a disapointment as there is so much expectation, and fresh in people's minds are the funniest bits of all previous series

Then 2 or 3 episodes in, there will be a very funny observation which then is remembered throughout the whole series

The series is too long now as well. Actually it wouldn't be a bad idea moving it to Wednesdays at 7.30pm, so it can air throughout the autumn and winter, but is taken off air virtually every other week for football. That gives each show a fortnights material to work with, rather than just the one, and hopefully means less filler, more laughs.

Bet Living though are delighted Dating in the Dark was one of his targets. Be interesting to know if Freaky Eaters saw it's ratings rise after exposure from Harry Hill.

Why does my TV Mag say 1/8 then? Are they going to advertise it as the Tenth Series after Christmas?

They'll probably do what they done last year.. have a break around Christmas and show a few repeats and start again mid January.
