My goodness there is a lot of crap emitting from certain corners in this thread.

As for Harry trying to be "bigger than the clips" - well in case you hadn't noticed it's the context in which Harry puts those clips that makes the programme funny in the first place. The clips on their own are meaningless, this isn't just another clip show.

The quality does vary between weeks depending on the material available, but it's consistently laugh out loud funny.

Then to top it off, Brekkie Boy comes in and tries the ludicrous argument that he found You've Been Framed more entertaining. Of course, any other day of the week, You've Been Framed would be cheap tacky filler, but that doesn't suit his agenda tonight.

I enjoy TV Burp and glad to see it back. For me its not consitantly funny, but there are some good points. For me personally i'd always prefer it around a 5.30pm slot as i see it as a warm up for the rest of the evening on ITV1.

I do have to be honest and say that i did laugh more at You've Been Framed tonight than TV Burp.

I still don't understand why Harry Hill of all people has been singled out as the sole representative of comedy the forum at large has decided is above criticism. It's been like this for as long as I can remember.

Fair enough if you find him funny, but some don't. Some happen to find him deeply unfunny. Some find the character he has constructed deeply unlikeable and a throwback to something that should've been weeded out of the alt comedy circuit in the early 80s.

But each to their own, comedy is subjective, etc. etc.
But really? "FIIIIGHT?" That's what it's come to?

No, because that item is just a quick way to get into the ad break, and has become a tradition, hardly the key to the show

It's like when people say they don't like Al Murray's Happy Hour because the 'big bob' section is there every week

It's also become a tradition now that every episode of TV Burp will be reviewed as 'not the best' because fresh in your mind are the funniest bits from about the previous 20 episodes combined into one made up episode that is now wrongly remembered as the normal standard

I thought his Sian Lloyd gag was brilliantly risky. Good for him.

I don't know what to make of the criticism being thrown at him here after one episode.

His observation and wit is as sharp as ever. Some gags don't work as well as others, but when he's on fire he's laugh out loud funny.

There were quite a few jokes relating to Hole in the Wall during the show, off-hand I think there were three other references to it, including the orange light in a box. The programme lends itself well to TV Burp, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets mentioned in future episodes.

I noticed that there was no 'TV Highlight of the week' or similar feature, I wonder whether this has been dropped. Overall I enjoyed the episode and thought it was good.

I am a Harry Hill fan, so I may be biased, but I thought that it was a very strong start to the series, and one which contained a look at many shows, and many different shows therefore not having to rely on the soaps as much.

Hopefully the standard will stay throughout this long run, and hopefully more will enjoy it, though maybe it's hit that peak will people enjoying it that every long running/successful show seems to have had where you never hear of anyone who doesn't enjoy them, and then comes a massive surge; I can put this to Only Fools & Horses, Ricky Gervais (or more so The Office), and even with some people Ant & Dec (though I don't agree with that one).

According to reports on other forums, there was a TV Highlight of the Week at the recording, just dropped for broadcast

I agree - quite often some shows tend to be better when they're outside of primetime, and kind of lose it a bit when they're given a more high profile slot.

Thankfully that hasn't happened to Harry.

it's a bit too predicable with they chippy chips / spagetti letters saying grow up / FIGHT!

yes it's funny what he spots but I feel he's trying to be bigger than the clips, unlike a certain Mr Norden who kept a low profile and let the outakes be the stars of the show

There were no chippy chips, no spaghetti, no etcs (whatever they are) this week. By having a break there are now a whole load of new shows - meaning pretty much all new content.

Not really - it's the same old shows he comments on every series, but that's probably down to the schedulers more than him to be fair.

To be honest though I found the few minutes of You've Been Framed I saw before the show better than the show itself tonight.

That's your opinion - and that correlates with your tastes. (If I'm thinking of the right person, you're also a fan of Family Guy)

Shows like EastEnders and Corrie will get a mention every week as there's tons of content to make something of - and Bear Grylls and Ray Mears will also be there due to the natures of the shows. The quips have to come from shows where there are jokes to be made - I'm pretty sure very few gags could be made about, say, the news, or ITV Nightscreen.
