SEE there are the same... thanks Whataday!

The main part of the theme is completely different; the start and the finish are similar at best. I was very familiar with both themes before now - if it was the same theme remixed, I would have noticed by now.

You seriously can't hear it? I'm amazed. The intro is identical and the main melody is remixed but it's the same theme!

It has some similarities but it's by no means the same, the main part of the new theme sounds like a completely different piece of music.

I would say 'remixed' is a wrong choice of word, it's more of a 'rearrangement.'

I'm not joking - I honestly think it's a different theme altogether. Sadly I don't know enough about music to try and compare the two themes beyond listening to them.

Agreed. I'm sure there's a proper musical term for it, but the melody is the same, with a few notes missing to make it a bit snappier and modern.

And just if anyone was in any doubt, here's a comparison between the 2001 and 2007 themes.

I get that there are similarities, but there's a difference between remixing and reworking. A remix usually still retains the melody or the "feel" of the source. A reworking is taking elements of the source and making something completely new. Try humming the two theme tunes - they're not the same.

Catchphrase and Fifteen to One kept their old themes. There's no pattern, some shows keep the theme when brought back after years off the air, others don't.

Although - and I was slow to realise this - Catchphrase completely changed its theme tune in 1993 when TVS ceased operations. It was a completely new composition and just sounded a bit like the old one. The new version is based on the original TVS theme.

All Star Family Fortunes sounds like it takes just TWO sections of the old theme and reuses them - but it is definitely the original theme.

So I decided to get an answer from the horse's mouth

Please could you settle a debate I've been having with someone... The Family Fortunes theme that you did... I am confident it is a reworking of the original theme, but someone else says it's a completely new tune. It's driving me insane as I can clearly hear the original theme in it, but they can't! We probably should get out more.

Hi Matgo. Put on a £100 bet that you're right, then get you friend to take you out for the evening! It's a reproduction of the original theme. Hope this helps. Have a fun night.

So another word comes into the fray: it's a 'reproduction' of the original theme.

Don't worry though billy asko, I won't be asking you to take me out. Very Happy

It even said on wiki that the family fortunes theme tune was a re-working of the original.

I even sung the Bob Monkhouse version and the current tune in my mind and they both sound the same.
