Thank goodness for that, Maybe next time Stars in thier eyes should be cut to 45mins.
The other problem with ITV at the moment there seem to want everything to be a ONE HOUR format, or pad out stuff to that,

All Star Family Fortunes has gone back to its original 45 minute format, after having a few series in a 1 hour format.

The regular episodes of Catchphrase are also 45 minutes long.

I dare say STV notice trying to pad out stuff to an hour is not a good idea..

Not seen it for ages but last time I saw it only 4 of the family actually got to go up to the podium, despite the show being 50% longer than the original.

Considering some of the fees reportedly given to the celebs to just appear on these shows (I've seen reports of £30k for an appearance on Mr & Mrs) I do think they could easily fund 30 minute regular folk editions by just taking the booking fees out of the equation. Having far greater flexibility in how they schedule the shows IMO is worth far more than the extra ad break, and I think the benefits of a pacier show far outweigh any costs.

Having a load of 30 minute episodes of the likes of Family Fortunes and Catchphrase in the can which can be put into the schedule as required (Thursday 8.30pm is an obvious dead slot).

Keep it in the Family and to an extent Get your Act Together show the opposite problem to reviving classics - it's pretty difficult nowadays to come up with something that doesn't feel like it's been done before. The former at least worked very well as a vehicle for Bradley Walsh and I hope that ITV give it a second series and the chance to develop rather than yet again going back to the drawing board and coming back with something even worse.

Again, I have to stress I really do think the problem ultimately lies with a very poor team of commissioners. I've worked in development for a number of years and although it can sometimes be difficult to think of original ideas we still managed to come up with a number of quite innovative formats that were ultimately shot down because they didn't suit that commissioner's personal taste in that hour long meeting. I've worked for people who have created some of the biggest quiz and game shows ever made and know exactly how to piece a perfect show together. They've walked into ITV with genuinely excellent ideas (promise I'm not just saying that because I worked on them!) and they've ended up having them ripped to shreds for inane reasons.

Just to play devils advocate is it just the commissioners are stupid or that they simply don't have the budgets for the shows people are bringing to them.

Perhaps but indies are constantly being squeezed for cash on pretty much every production anyway and they're normally still able to make brilliant programmes. Also an innovative format doesn't necessarily need a massive budget.

Don't forget the axing of Dancing on Ice opened up a huge pot of cash for new entertainment this year, granted a lot of it was wasted on the pre-production of Rising Star (yet another example of a format that is strikingly poor) but still they've managed to get Stars in Their Eyes and Get Your Act Together out of that remaining cash. The most frustrating thing is that they're not spending money on innovation, they're spending it on formats that they think are safe and reliable and yet the audience themselves are turning off and want something completely different.

Clearly no big budget for Stars in Their Eyes, Most of the staff are already in the building done stuff.

I agree, one wonders how long ITV are going to keep just relying on BGT and X Factor and Ant & Dec for that matter... it's the same old every year and it's getting boring. "ah but it still works!" I hear somebody cry...

With the shorter run for SITE & I believe for GYAT compared to splash & DOI what is planned for the end of feb?

Going back to the 90's in my head Gladiators, Blind Date, the Gen Game & House Party all ran from the autumn and into the new year. Was this the case or am I misrembering?

The BARB viewing figures have now been published for w/e 18th January.

Viewing figures for Stars in their Eyes was 3.14 million on 10th January (number 22 in the top 30 for ITV).

Stars in their Eyes doesn't appear in the top 30 for ITV for w/e 18th January, and the number 30 programme for ITV got 2.38 million, so that's quite a large drop between the 1st and 2nd episodes!
