I think the problem here may be that because TV Burp was so successful and ran for ten years, everything else Hill will do will get compared to it. Therefore if it doesn't have something that looks, feels and acts like Burp, it may not, in the eyes of Hill, be immediately successful. YBF doesn't have that problem as there's no visual material for Hill to create.

It's like watching an absolute car crash.

Wouldn't be surprised if this is pulled off air before the series is out.

I think that's a bit of an overreaction.

Most of the people complaining on Twitter are those who watched it back in the 90s and probably would have hated it whoever hosted it anyway.

Interesting that they got Matthew Kelly on, obviously no bad blood with ITV then.

The format is a bit confused. Is it a comedy show, or a singing show? At some points it's wacky and silly, and other points it's just like the old show. I don't think it's completely terrible - with a bit of tweaking (as ever with TV shows) it will hopefully be able to find what it wants to be, rather than a bit of a mish mash.

It's more entertaining than The Voice, that's for sure.

I note that the credits ran over the end of the show - aren't all ITV credits supposed to run over a black background?

It was a mickey take of the original format yes but, I found it hilarious. It was never going to be the show of old with Harry in charge. Also, there are plenty of other karaoke shows about and this one is different atleast, it's a bit of Saturday night fun! The premise of the show of dressing up and (trying to) sound like popular singers is a bit ridiculous anyway.

I was confused on what programme I was supposed to be watching.

One moment I thought I was watching a new comedy sketch then we're told the audience are going to vote "for what?" I asked myself then we was reminded that some people sung for 90 seconds and this was a singing contest.

I thought it was excellent! What do people expect? A carbon copy of series 1? Dream on.

I agree, I laughted, it was cheesy as hell, but it was fun all the way, at least we did not have to put up with all that drama etc.

That's what most of the people on Twitter are like, even though the reason they're trying a new format is because they, the viewer, lost interest in that format in the first place.

He was on Benidorm last year and a year or two before that, and also at least one other ITV drama prior to that.

Permission can be sought to do this. See Saturday Night Takeaway for one.

I was surprised at how much attention had actually been paid to the original format - mickey-taking or otherwise. The vote sequence and the shot of the winner walking through was very similar to what I remember.

But agreed that Hill needs to take a step or two back - I can just about deal with the cringey Family Fortunes style VTs *or* his brand of comedy stamped across the whole thing, but not both.

i am wondering if some of you boys are looking through rose tinted glasses.

let's be honest, in the 1990s the original stars in their eyes was dull and wooden. it was almost as bad as blind date, it was the least painful of the two when there was only four channels, but was pretty dire.

and who lives in a world where, on a saturday night you want to watch a dead-pan serious singing competition... on itv?? insane, surely? the same channel that, in a few months time will be televising somebody eating some kangaroo gonads?

anyway, i enjoyed harry hill's anarchic comedy influence. i accept his style of comedy isn't to everyone's tastes, it's either something you get or you don't.

and i give the producers some credit for actually daring to try something different, otherwise we'll end up with the usual state of affairs - for example a dancing competition on a normal dance floor on one channel, and then a slightly different dancing competition, but this time on ice, on the other channel.

and haven't we got a singing competition which takes the whole thing seriously on the other channel? and they had to add some spinning chairs and tom jones to make that interesting.

ITV will give dispensation to production companies if they wish to use a variant of the end credit guidelines.

I have to agree with most people; I thought it was too confused. One minute you're enjoying a sketch - the next it's serious and people are singing for the vote. In places it feels like the 'contestants' are acting.
