Talking of theme tunes (and continuing some of the discussion of remakes) I didn't see it mentioned anywhere, but for the most recent series of Surprise Surprise they seem to have resurrected the original theme.

My bad, only just picked up on that being the original theme, It's family fortunes all over again! Very Happy

To be fair, although the melody is more in tact than Family Fortunes, it's fairly subtle and hard to pick up if you're watching it on TV without headphones. The same can be said of the Catch Phrase theme I think.

I can't comment on the former, having not watched Surprise Surprise in any incarnation, but the reworking of the Catch Phrase theme tune is one of the few things I like about the new series. I find it interesting that the maze motif was carried over from the later Roy Walker-era titles too.

^Both Roy Walker Catchphrase title sequences were based around a maze. The later one just added curves instead of using right angles, due to better computer animation. The original titles were made when not all TV channels even had computer generated idents.

Yes, I'd actually forgotten what the first title sequence looked like when I wrote that post. Perhaps it's not as odd a decision as I thought.

Looked at Saturday's schedules in the Sunday papers, and I think Stars in their Eyes is doomed to failure. Some idiot decided to schedule it in the same timeslot as The Voice! Shocked

The trailer with the theme can be found here:

Seems a bit of a weak version of the theme, maybe produced specifically for the trailer?

Someone posted a photo of the set on twitter https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B62Zi5HCcAAWY_X.jpg

New trailer just aired with Harry on set and the theme off the other trailer.

Compared with the set of the last series of Stars In Their Eyes that Cat Deeley hosted several years ago, that set looks cheap and tacky. Even the very first Stars In Their Eyes set from when Leslie Crowther was the host looked better than this!

I suppose we have to be thankful they didn't sign up Keith Lemon to host this revival! They might as well have done with that set!

It looks tiny, though thank god they've not opted to slip a judges desk in front of it. Does look to be inspired by earlier sets too. In the early days didn't they mock up the contestants work places for the pre-performance chats?

It's obviously not going to be 100% serious with Harry Hill hosting though it remains to be seen how his humour fits in with the format. I wouldn't be surprised if Harry only did it for a year or two before a more mainstream presenter took over.

Not feeling this revamp really. Nothing about it seems right.

Cat Deeley set was bland beyond belief.

But it had 10 stairs/steps, 10! But it certainly looks better than the new set.
