It's very easy to convert old idents into widescreen...

That's good, but try doing a moving one!

LWT got Dave Jeffery to recreate their river ident for widescreen rather than bodge the original. The stripey 2 and the TWO would be quite easy to do in Flash I would imagine.

Note that some of Dave's work is at http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/ilove/tv/testcards/ but with a notable lack of BBC2 content

Granted, that would be a bit more difficult, but by no means impossible! Smile

I think you COULD get away with simply taking the sides of the 4:3 picture, and inserting them into the 16:9 area and adding a blur. If it's only on screen for a few seconds, the majority of viewers wouldn't notice (except anoraks like ourselves!) Wink

Yep, that would be ideal. It could also be cool if they got some widescreen versions made too...

More likely they would want to stick their purple 2 box, eg.

Yes, they can be done....

Go to the BBC2 section of this page, should be about 1/2 way down.

I may animate my w/s =2= sometime.

BBC Two celebrates its 40th anniversary by taking a look at the people and programmes that have made the channel what it is today.
Integral to the evening are behind-the-scenes stories from the controllers and contributors who saw the channel through adversity, controversy, innovation and invention. The programme hears the stories behind such classic programmes as The Likely Lads, Arena,The Old Grey Whistle Test, I, Claudius, Boys From The Blackstuff, Not The Nine O'Clock News,Top Gear and Little Britain to name just a few, as well as some of the channel's less auspicious offerings, such as The Borgias.
The programme is punctuated by original sketches written and performed by the Dead Ringers team and dotted throughout the evening are the strange and wonderful letters from the readers of the Radio Times, who were moved enough by the channel to put pen to paper.

Apologies about opening that other thread the other day I though one did appear on here but couldn't find the topic. That's the picture that was in the TV times

It's not quite as you'd imagine, but does incorporate those elements and looks very good.

Are you saying you can't enjoy something if a bit of it happens to be cut off?

It's not a bit though, it's a quarter of the picture, and that's a lot. I personally find it very hard not to notice. Especially being somewhat of an amatur film maker myself it makes me feel stronger about it and notice it more.

Yes I do admit it annoys me too.

Perhaps they can do what LWT did on their closing night, and re-make their idents in Widescreen.

I believe they were done in Flash!

And there are countless Flash mocks of BBC2 Idents on the net, so why don't the beeb steal those Wink

Just saw a trailer for the Happy Birthday BBC TWO programme on the 20th. Showed a few of the past idents interspeced from clips from the respective eras.
