What has happened to UTV's graphics?

Terrible colour fading on idents and promos (August 2006)

I've noticed this more and more recently on UTV's promo graphics where the yellow colour has become very faded. However, it has also happened to 2 of their idents as well (both the River Lagan ones) but the rest are all fine. What could have caused this?

Here's a couple of examples:

And here's the colour they're supposed to be:

That is a big difference.

The layout of that slide looks quite bad also. Why don't they use the ITV typeface?

I don't see the point of them keeping the name UTV if they are going to use the generic ITV graphics and not their own. Rolling Eyes

Could it be the "Fraiser Effect" that happens on Paramount, where they have played the tapes so many times that the colour is so faded they almost look black and white? Though as they are fairly new its can't be that.

Maybe they left some of the idents sitting out in a sunny spot in the office by accident?

That's odd. Can prolonged sunlight exposure cause the colour to fade?

The only explanation I can think of is that in production, that whoever created the trails adjusted the contrast and brightness of the template.

Maybe the same applied when creating the Lagan idents. I can't remember when they were launched - I am guessing they weren't part of the original line up as they use a different font to indicate the location.

Surely messing around with design templates for presentation packages like such SHOULD be avoided as much as possible to maintain consistency?

Then again, this is UTV... Wink

Could it be your duff PC TV Capture card you bought for a couple of pounds down at your local Sunday car boot sale? Confused:

I suggest you pop down to your nearest electrical outlet and invest in one of the latest flat screen TV's and see if you notice the difference! Laughing

Seriously though, I am unsure why these graphics are losing their colour...

See the strange thing is that it's only two out of about 15 idents that this happens on!

And UTV being UTV of course aren't happy with one font on their promo endboards, they use two or three different ones! But it's only the ones that use the font above that are faded; the ones that use the other fonts are fine!

Surely those things wold only happen with analogue tape? Seeing as now, virtually everything is server based, and what is tape based is almost certinally digital, that's not going to be the cause.

why on earth do UTV use network trails with the end board (is that the right word?) appearing to have cut out the ITV1 and pasted in UTV. Surely it cant cost that much for them to make there own (i.e. in line with there own graphics package)

Or possibly someone's adjusted the chroma level somewhere in whatever equipment they use to version trails (a VT machine, the output of the edit suite or something on the input of the server) and forgot to put it back again. It only looks strange on the end-board because the colou there is the only consistant reference we have

Chances are it's a playout issue.

Trails are done on Avids where Idents are done on Flame. So the sources are fine, if it's happening on both then it's down to whats playing them out such as someone changing settings and not putting them back!

Exactly, it just looks lazy to me, and why do they always use Arial? Rolling Eyes
