I asked that in a previous thread - it's still being made in New Zealand.

I think it was dropped by the ITV stations as at the time they were proclaiming that they wanted everything on ITV to be British made. At the time, and still to this day Home and Away is actually made by a Granada offshoot - used to be called Red Heart Productions but is now called Granada Australia!!!!!!

i had a dream about shortland st, v odd given that ive never liked the programme! blue heelers on the other hand - that was fab - if they camped it up a bit it could be a modern day sons and daughters/flying doctors type thing.

it was perfect for the afternoon slot on central. better than the trash theyve replaced it with.

I only saw a couple of episodes of Blue Heelers, when I could tune Central in - it was never shown on Granada - SHAME ON THEM!!!!!

It's still being made in Oz!!! _ I saw a few episodes when I was over in November - including the season finale!

Why can''t ITV show these on ITV2 say....

1700 Shortland Street
1730 M, W, F - Blue Heelers
1730 Tu, Th - E Street/ Richmond Hill/ Other Classic Aussie DRama's!!!!
1830 Classic British Gameshows

I used to watch it on HTV, however in January 2003 HTV skipped over 500 episodes to be in line with Central episodes and I didnt agree with that. HTV were up to late 1998 and Central up to early 2001, so when Carlton decided they wanted it shown across all of their regions (Central, HTV, London and Westcountry) it was the Central episodes they went with.

However it being shown on all Carlton regions was short lived as they were forced to drop it in Aug 2003 because ITV took away all the daytime regional slots and there was nowhere for it to go, and the ITV Network didnt want it.

Granada used to show Shortland Street for a few years over the mid 1990's, they had stopped by about 1998 or 1999, same along with A Country Practice. But rather oddly Granada brought it back for a couple of weeks in 2002, I think it was over the World Cup period when the whole Daytime schedule was a mess due to the Football. I think it was also shared on some other GMG Stations at that time.

Granada/Yorkshire/Tyne Tees all dropped Shortland Street in December 1998, they didnt get that far into the series, as you said just a couple of years I think.

I think the reason they brought it back in 2002 on Granada/YTV/TTTV was because they needed a schedule filler and Anglia (who by this point were owned by Granada) used to show it (until they were owned by Granada who told them to axe it) and they had the rights to some of the episodes. I think Granada/YTV/TTTV showed the last couple of months worth of episodes from Anglia's run during the Summer of 2002. These were episodes from around 1999 so years ahead of where Granada originally dropped it.

Carlton London also showed it in the early days as well but only got about a year into storylines before axing it, and then it wasnt shown again until all Carlton regions got it in Jan 2003. Carlton Westcountry never showed it at all until Jan 2003. Central and HTV were 2 of the few regions who stuck with it for a considerable amount of time.
