I remember a meridian / tvs announcer who used to make some very good cracks about some of the coronation street endings, not taking the mick just funny comments, like "don't worry derdrie we know you didn't do it." when she got sent to prison.
i guess now in our days of professionalism making such comments would be inappropriate
of course butting into the ending after a very intense scene to enthusiastically promote the next programme is not at all inappropriate
I would prefer them to make funny comments over the end credits than just promote the next programme. FIVE seem to have a mixture of that on the end credits of Home and Away -sometimes they promote whats coming next, sometimes the announcer will comment on the storylines/characters.

Well, what would expent from the likes of Trish Betram and the others at 5 - they know how to do it properly - and my how it shows!
The whole business of becoming more conversational on ITV has lead to many of the announcers sounding very bored - and because they no longer 'project' what they say - the music tends to drown them completely. ITV's past presentation success has in many instances been down to its announcing staff who firlmy believed in 'selling the product' and 'talking it up'....now all they do is 'talk it down' - over those ghastly idents.
My guess is that whatever bright spark initiated the new style, it'll flop by the end of the year and revert to what ITV
has
been good at for years - selling its goods in an upfront way to a mass market.
Scottish/Grampian also had a new ECP tonight. It's just black with blue and white writing. Anyway, I really like the announcers on Scottish/Grampian. I feel as though I know them.
On the North East coast of Scotland we are not subjected to the continuity from London on ITV1 but do get the Londoners for ITV2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,9A etc on satellite and they have made no impression on me at all. shame as the good announcers could be part and parcel of the brand whereas I suspect they are allowed to be no more than part of the bland.
