Oh dear oh dear, perhaps thats why they sound so depressed. They know that they are being replaced.

I wouldn't have thought that was the case.

Does that mean the rebrand of the channels wont take place till next month then if they are only advertising now for announcers?

Doubt it's anything to do with it; I believe it's still taking place in ten days or so.

That job add wants more "yoof" cheesy sounding commercial radio people.

So in a couple of months time we should expect the morning announcer to "text us now to get YOOUUURRR ident on the telly" or something to that effect.

So anyone over 25 shouldn't apply for that ITV job. If they want the announcer to "connect" with their target audience, ITV should pop down to Bluewater and offer a chav all the bling and fags he/she could ever want in exchange for announcing. Sorr'ed, loike, innit!

I LOVE the way they say you MUST apply by post, as a voicereel is required.

I take it nobody at ITV understands the concept of an e-mail with an mp3 attached.

Not much hope for poor old Banksey then, applying to do it remotely over an iSDN line.

I wish I'd seen that ad a few days ago. I would have sent them a tongue-in-cheek demo. Knowing sods law, I'd probably have gotten the gig.

Just out of curiousity, what's the going rate for an ITV announcer these days? £20k?

Probably almost double that.

In that case, I doubt any of them are "demorolised".

£40k or thereabouts is a fabulous amount of wonger for a relatively easy job. I'm surprised you didn't apply for it, Dan! Wink

ITV has been desperately trying to chase the yoof audience for a few years now but can never get away from the fact that its audience is largely 55+ C2DE .
The chavvy accent thing is a bid to reflect / draw in what they think 'young people' want to hear. The BBC went through that awhile back when it turfed out its 'proper' sounding announcers in favour of a more 'off the street 'feel. Interestingly it's now swinging back the other way.
This isn't about genuine regional accents , just about the estuary /media english one hears alot these days. I am not suggesting we go back to the days of pompous sounding announcers ...but lets not go too much the other way!

Well they would be if they're about to lose their jobs!!

I might get in the car and drive to London to hand in my application for 40k!

But I don't see any reason to think that's the case.

Thinking about who they've hired over the last ten years, including the two new announcers a couple of years ago, I'm not sure I'd agree with that.

It has to be close to that otherwise there'd be no point moving from the BBC to ITV as several people have done. Also I can't imagine ITV pays much less than Channel 4 and I believe that's in the same sort of area.

I saw on Working Lunch this week that a crane driver can earn £40k a year, but I'm not rushing to apply for that either..!

I think you'll find 40k is a little over the mark!
