Erm, as a consultant surgeon I would classify myself as "medically trained".
You got me there, although I'd imagine that even consultant surgeons can't make an accurate diagnosis without seeing the patient or, at least, having some details that don't come from conflicting reports on the television.
Of course not. But 17 years of experience has taught me that patients in conditions like Richard's are very, very lucky to pull through. Sorry to be pessimistic.
I fail to belive that: a) Your a surgeon
I can understand that you wouldn't believe me, but I am and believe me it can be an awful job.
I made such a claim because we were in fact told more than "he was in a crash", at least on Look North, and from what was said, I know that he's hanging on for dear life.

b) If you are, how you can make a claim like that without knowing anything other than "he was in a crash." The news reports know nothing yet. Nothing has been said and no statement made, so how you know what "condition" Richard is in I have no idea...

I'm an occasional poster here, but, thinking about it I've only had a few 'must watch' tv shows over the last few years and two of those would be 'Top Gear' and 'Brainiac'. I even tuned into Mr Hammond's daytime foray 'Richard Hammond's 5'o Clock show'...I remember starting a thread either here or some other fora, thinking that Richard was one of the best presenters...
All the best 'Hamster'...see you back on telly soon...

I see your point there, it's not like he's died, but TTB isn't really his show, without being really disrespectful or anything. (And it's The City Of New York Vs Homer Simpson on right now which is rarely shown)
I've been out all day, but there was no Top Gear on G2 today obviously, TOTP2 was in it's place at 9.00am.

I see that Test Tube Baby has been replaced by The Simpsons. Is there any real reason for this, seeing as Richard wasn't involved in the show anyway.

Er ...that's their job. How else would you be getting the news that your following ?
I take it you're a Lib Dem.
It's not news though - it's the anticipation of news.
Throughout the last few days of George Best's we had constant updates which were basically to the effect of "George Best not dead yet" - which were completly unneccessary and unrespectful, and I know many people on this forum felt the same way.
We're already bombarded with every minor detail of every minor celebrities marriage / divorce / pregnancy etc. - we don't need a celebrity deathwatch service!

I just hope we don't get another situation like George Best with reporters outside the hospital just waiting for his death. Already some reports I've read tonight have included premature tributes to the man!

Speak for yourself - if you don't think every news organisation worth its salt doesn't have someone camped outside the hospital right now you're deluding yourself.
I can't get enough of it when a celebrity comes a cropper.

So you're a consultant surgeon in your early forties not registered with doctors.net.uk, or (somewhat more importantly) the GMC, who claims to be 'medically trained' (when most surgeons have a healthy disrepect for 'medicine', and would be ridiculed by their colleagues for such a suggestion), is able to post on here incredibly frequently and at all times of day, has a working knowledge of T4 and their target audience, and feels able to offer medical opinions based on a Look North report - opinions which use phrases like "hanging on for dear life"?
You're not by any chance related to this guy are you?

I beg your pardon? Did you spend all day writing that post?
If you were boring enough to look my name up, you've wasted your time. Do you really think I'm going to use my real name on an internet forum?

I won't believe you're a surgeon whilst using hackneyed cliches like "lucky to pull through", "hanging on for dear life".
Impress me with some, surgeon type techno babble, like what kind of injuries may have been sustained, treatments and the chances for recovery, and I may be convinced.
Otherwise I'll believe you're no more a surgeon than I am Wincey Willis.
Oh and to the subject in hand, best wishes go to Mr Hammond. One of the good guys I thought (in a non Katherine kind of way).
