Just a quick word on the Hamiltons Circus (
great silly season story!
) . . .
1) Straight after the press conference by the solicitor representing the alleged rape victim, Sky went straight to an exclusively (apart from the Century mike!) LIVE interview
2) Simon McCoy did a fantastic interview with the Hamiltons PRIOR to that press conference where he accussed Christine of putting on the tears for the cameras. Her response is the subject of all the pictures used of her in today's papers. McCoy finally reduced someone he was interviewing to tears! The Mcr Eve News used most of their front yesterday on the McCoy interview.
Christine replied to the accusation flooding into tears angrily remarking: 'How dare you say that!' Before adopting the standard position collapsing onto Neil's body (conviently in such a way that her deeply upset face was seen by the cameras [including Sky's other one] pointing from another direction).
From the Manchester Evening News (one of Britain's worst evening newspapers!):
THE strain finally became too much for Christine Hamilton today when she broke down in tears during a TV interview.
Speaking from her home in Nether Alderley, Cheshire, the woman renowned for her unflappable bravado, wept as she told of the strain the police investigation into a sex assault claim had placed upon them.
Meanwhile, the woman at the centre of the Hamilton sex allegations — who cannot be named for legal reasons — said today she was confident the case would go to trial.
Later, Christine, 52, clutched husband Neil's arm and broke down during another TV interview outside her home in which she was accused of being ‘‘bombastic'' and milking media attention.
Christine said: ‘‘Bombastic? Oh that's nice. All I'm trying to do is keep my pecker up. I haven't been told to come out in this state. We haven't been advised by Max Clifford. How dare you make that allegation? How dare you?''
Neil tried to calm Christine, who was dressed in white trousers and a scarlet top, before adding: ‘‘If you are accused of serious sexual assault it takes something out of you.''
Christine later apologised for ‘‘blowing up'' at the interviewer, saying: ‘‘I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.''
