I watched Hale and Pace sometimes in the early to mid 90s and although I found some of their characters funny, especially The Two Rons, there were a few sick sketches featuring animals and I remember that the one where the kids TV presenters microwaved a cat caused a lot of complaints. Can anyone remember the one with a village cricket team using live frogs instead of balls? I also seem to remember one where tennis was being played with frogs as balls, or is this just my bad memory?

I don't remember the sketches myself, but I'd hazard an educated guess on them not actually having been live animals.

No, they weren't actually live animals of course, at least not in the scenes showing the actual violence/cruelty. I remember that the cat-microwaving sketch was shown in a programme called "Comedy's 50 (or 100 - I can't remember which exactly) Most Shocking Moments".

There was also the tortoise sketch set in rural England which featured such events as tortoise blowing and tortoise conkers.

I have seen the tortoise sketch listed on YouTube. I bet that was a controversial sketch!
