Person that wrote that is P****K, who clearly have his own self interest and propergrande he trying to spread. Maybe If the nice, ER stupid man did his research, BUT HEY most people cant be arse doing that these so why bothering complaining? He would have realised and been able to produce something more well rounded more truthful and something maybe people could enjoy,

STV made a lot of money in the 80s, and also produced a good number of shows for the network, Grampian main reason was there never really used the ident in the first place, why waste good money on ident if you could to show lots of IN CA? Grampain kept this up to take over in 1997, you would have been hard pushed to found an ident out side 09.25, 12.30, 18pm, 22pm

I'm not sure what you're getting so upset about, or why for that matter. Is it just because he summed up an STV ident as having the "worlds worst dramatic drumroll" and as a "national disgrace"?

Indeed - I just noticed that too! Embarassed

Perhaps it was trending due to the ITV regional cuts announcement.

They weren't that far off the mark regarding the Border ident - it wasn't until 1989 they they got an animated one, and even then it was the ITV generic logo with part of the Border 'chopsticks' forming part of the the 'V'.

Come the early 1990s, Border beefed up their presentation quite considerably and the "Chopsticks" logo became fully animated with good use made of rearrangements of the 1989 ITV jingle. By the time the 1999 ITV corporate look came in, Border's was up there with the best of them.

The early 1980s STV logo was certainly functional, but did its job. However their presentation moved up a whole new level when the "Bertie Bassetts" thistle ident was introduced in 1985 and this with numerous refreshes was to be used for the next 14-and-a-half years. This to me signified a station which was proud to be Scottish and not afraid to move with the times, even if its broadcast area was limited to central Scotland and the West Highlands.
