i think many broadcasters, including itv and the bbc thought they could churn out loads of channels, rely solely on their brand and hope that people watch them. it didn't work.
what gets me is that the archives of the bbc and itv are an absolute treasure trove, yet they rely most on contemporary rubbish, i mean just how many times can you watch '2 pints of lager...' in a day.
but the omnibus edition of eastenders on a sunday afternoon is an absolute travesty, its not as though they haven't got any other channel to stick it on, and perhaps moving it off the main terrestrial network will drive digital takeup, which is something the bbc have been charged with doing.
the fact is there are many other things a public service broadcaster should be doing with their airtime, and filling lulls in the schedule with repeats frustrates me, i wish there was as much creativity on the main networks as there is on bbc radio where nobody seems to be afraid to try something different.
