This Friday BBC One will broadcast the long awaited follow up to the legendary Only Fools and Horses. The programme follows two charaters from the original programme as they escape to the Shropshire hills. Marleene and Boycie; now with their son, Tyler. Who flee after news of the release of the "Driscoll Brothers"

Been a Shropshire lad there's been an awful lot of build-up to the programme and I thought I'd start a thread to gauge what people thought of the new spin-off.
Admittadly the programme doesn't start until Friday night, but I was bored this afternoon.

Personally been a great lover of Only Fools and Horses I'm looking quite forward to the new series.

It probably won't be as good as only fools and horses I never think spin offs are. One series my guess is all that will be made.

I loved Only Fools and Horses, but kind of felt it went on too long and that killed it for me.

Not sure about a spin off series - but time will tell. It'll certainly be worth a watch.

Is it me, or does the person playing Tyler look too old for the role, seeing as he's meant to be 16? Still, it's a step up from the fact that Tyler hasn't been seen since Miami Twice, and has only been mentioned a couple of times since.

It'll either be really good or really bad - just hope it's more of a Frasier than a Joey!

I can't believe they are still considering though bringing back Only Fools and Horses again!

Bringing it back in 2001 has to be the biggest mistake a programme has ever made and for many it has ruined the memories of a fantastic programme!

Boycie was one of my favourite OFAH characters. I think we should watch it and judge it on its own merits, rather than EXPECT it to be like OFAH.

Afterall, spin-off's have been popular before. Tucker's Luck for example, a spin-off from Grange Hill proved popular.

I hope it does well but TBH, I don't know, Boycie & Trigger where my two favourites so this may do well, a Trigger spin off could have worked as well

Just had an interview with "Boyice" on Breakfast. Looks really good from the clips they shown. That and Kate Silverton doing a "Marlene" impression. Priceless.

You're right - spinoffs are not usually as good as the original programme. The only exception I can think of is Frasier, which was a spin-off of Cheers.

Don't think that's likely to happen. On the BBC interview this morning, John Challis said that David Jason had been approached about a Del Boy appearance in the spin off but said didn't want to because he felt he had done all he could do with the character now (or something to that effect). Good decision - I think it went on too long in any case.

I'm always wary of sitcom spin-offs.

Anyone remember the years-later "Are You Being Served?" spin-off, "Grace and Favour" ?

I've put a poll in now to gauge opinion on the first episode. Personally I quite liked it. Next week looks good...
