Is this the list that was decided based on 1000 votes on an online poll?? It's a bit of a weak number isn't it

No11: Friends ( WHY )

Why are you so surprised that Friends is in the list? It finished during this decade and is one of the most successful US sitcoms to date. It has a huge following in the UK so I think it rightly deserves a place in the list. Personally, I would probably argue that Seinfeld is the greatest US sitcom ever made, but Friends is up there.

Ahh! Right, perhaps you can answer this for me. Listening to the commentaries of some of my favourite shows like 'The IT Crowd' and interviews with comedians, they often state 'Seinfeld' as an inspiration because it was so bloody brilliant. So based on this I bought the first couple of seasons on DVD. It's funny, and I do like it, but it's hardly as groundbreaking and brilliant as these famous writers/producers/comedians seem to suggest. In fact I think the stuff they made is better.

So am I missing something? Or does the show get a lot better in the later seasons?

I forgot it lasted till 2004, it still better than The simpsons being in there.

Does NO one found it strange the interview with the Top gear people is in a Bus?

You've hit the nail on the head there. Seinfeld only started to find its feet in the third season and it really took off at the start of season four. The first couple of seasons were a bit slow and relied heavily on Jerry's stand-up material. If I were you, I'd start with season 3 and work your way from there. For me (and I've watched every episode dozens and dozens of times) the show was at its peak between seasons 4 and 8. Co-creator Larry David left at the end of the seventh season and Jerry continued on his own for the last two seasons. As a result, they went a bit "out there", particularly the final season (nine). The four main characters were great, but I also think some of the regular guest stars are the real stars of the show, especially Wayne Night as Newman and Jerry Stiller as Frank Costanza. They'll have you in stitches!

The numbers to surprise me are Talent outperforming X Factor, and Apprentice outperforming Doctor Who... Top Gear I can believe nowadays. It's practically a sketch show now, not really a review show... so it can appeal to anyone.

The audience which took part in this poll was obviously very middle-class (or likes to think they are) and very male.

Where is Deal or No Deal? Big Brother? Sex and the City (not that I watch that rubbish myself)?

And very dyslexic.

Also if Gavin and Stacey lasted the same length of time but started in the year 2000, do you think it would be on the list? Well I don't.

Such polls are rendered pointless in my view as they rely on peoples memories and therefor massively favour more recent shows.

There were no good Television Programmes in the 2000s.

Is it me or am I just totally missing something when it comes to Gavin & Stacey and James Corden? Or maybe it was because I saw Horne & Corden first, wasn't particularly keen on that either and first impressions and all that?

Looking down the list, I wouldn't say Dragon's Den was particularly "great", Celeb, Strictly and X Factor I really didn't care about in the first place, QI I can't stand, Shameless I think was probably better in its earlier years. The Simpsons is realistically not as good as it used to be though the quality of the animation is much better than it used to be. Britain's Got Talent is a rare beast and universally popular as it's as close as one can get to the old fashioned variety shows which I think we need more of.

The Apprentice, while engaging and fun to watch apparently business minded people completely screw the basics up and make heavy weather of pretty much anything, the spin-off shows were tosh.

I see there is no mention of Outnumbered in the list, no Little Britain either (surprisingly) and I thought My Family might have been in there too, since it's been around for forever and a day.
