I think this deserves posting as an excellent remix of many of the themes of the era...

Flaming marvellous. What a great remix. Masterfully done. Was "Boon" the "Hi, Ho Silver!" theme?

Also, the BBC Breakfast News orchestral mix must also go down as a true classic in my book.

So since we didn't have Doctor Who in the 90's what was it that young boys (and some girls) watched instead? Well this for starters, great theme that could still be used today if they wanted to revive the series.

Yes, performed by Jim Diamond.

I should like to put forward the following as fantastic examples of TV Theme music (and someone beat me to it with The Tripods - what a fine synth tune that is):

BBC - Bergerac - George Fenton

BBC - Atheletics - "World Series" - Keith Mansfield

Thames Television - Wish You Were Here - "Burros de Bahia" - Otto Keller Orchestra

BBC - The Two Ronnies - Ronnie Hazlehurst

Central Television - The One Game - "Saylon Dola" - Nigel Hess

Yorkshire Television - Follyfoot - "The Lightning Tree" - The Settlers

There are tons of other 'favourites' of mine! Classic schools programme "Watch", Children's BBC show "Screen Test", most Ronnie Hazlehurst compositions (with the exception of "Blankety Blank" Rolling Eyes ) ...

My all-time favourite BBC News theme:

I really miss that Virtual Era Sad

Really? Those theme tunes were horrible, especially when you consider the ones they mangled to produce them. In this case:

As news themes go, this is probably my favourite:

Going off-topic for a second, what's with the retro BBC 1 logo in those Eldorado publicity cards in the full length theme video?

This has been discussed before, I think the consensus was an old logo was mistakenely used or maybe it was still used as an alternate logo.

EDIT: Found it Here: http://www.tvforum.co.uk/tvhome/history-soap-sets-30709/page-3

It seems the rounded logo was used concurrently with the 1988 logo up until 1990 on copyright notices.

Cheers for that - that thread reminded me of another great theme

As far as news themes are concerned, this one was always my favourite singular rendition of the BBC theme, with that incredible, long intro, as the camera weaved it's way across that huge studio. (Not to forget the trademark "pen-click" against the desk before the newspresenter spoke.......)

Oh yes, I especially like the long rendition of the bed before the thunderclaps. I think only Michael Buerk did the pen-click, for luck.
