Big news today...
ITV, the channel that has given us some of the biggest gems in recent years, with the possible exception of Love on a Saturday Night (I'd prefer Thursday quite frankly) and Simply the Best (The biggest lie in broadcasting history), comes the biggest news to come from Independent Television since Cilla Black returned for Soapstar Superstar...

Stars In Their Eyes could be in line for the AXE!

This of course is all due to The ITVGSOLRPS (Independent Television Get Shot of Long-Running Popular Shows) Policy, which has already seen the death of shows like Rosemary & Thyme, Celebrity Fit Club and Footballers' Wives. It seems that Simon Shaps (New Director of Programmes) has it in his head to upset people, despite what former Controller of Drama Nigel Pickard said last year on The Story of ITV: The People's Channel:

"I don't suggest that we get rid of Heartbeat, The Royal or Rosemary & Thyme, but we need to have shows that appeal to every audience, and we need to balance that."

Well, I don't think it can get any worse, unless...

No they can't do that to Corrie...

Or can they...

What do you think?

Stars In Their Eyes lost its camp appeal for me when Matthew Kelly left.

I don't see what the huge fuss is about. It's a trashy show which is past its sell by date. Looking at the voting figures for the grand final, it's clear the show's losing popularity as well. It's not like they're ditching the news now is it?

ITV are insisting they're not axing the show, but are thinking of giving it a major overhaul.

I would post the article, but to quote 'Jonathan'

So I'm sorry, but you'll have to go find it yourself.

The expensive way to axe it. Does that ever work, You Bet! and Telly Addicts were revamped and bombed.

Even worse... remember the 'mean and moody' Krypton Factor revamp with Penny Smith co-presenting? <shudders>

Stars in their Eyes is long overdue for the axe!

You know though if they "revamp" it it's going to be along the lines of The X Factor with public votes every week, judges etc.

I think Stars in their eyes is well past its sell by date, but its still a fairly entertaining programme. If it is axed it will be a shame because its made by Granada TV in Manchester and one of the few programmes these days on ITV (Corrie and Emmerdale aside) made outside London.

Stars in Their Eyes awaits ITV's verdict

ITV is understood to be planning an overhaul of its long-running entertainment show Stars in Their Eyes.

The network is understood to be unhappy with the show which has run for 16 years under the presenting stewardship first of Leslie Crowther, then Matthew Kelly, and then Cat Deeley.

According to Broadcast magazine, executives under the leadership of the head of entertainment, Paul Jackson are contemplating getting rid of the show.

In response, the producers at ITV Productions have compiled a completely revamped treatment for the show and suggested potential new presenters.

Other long-running shows which have been axed under the new regime of the ITV director of television, Simon Shaps, include the dramas Footballers' Wives and Rosemary and Thyme and the reality show Celebrity Fit Club.

An ITV spokeswoman declined to comment on the claims or to confirm whether a revamp was being considered. However she insisted that the show was "not being axed".

Well, i'm not surprised if Stars goes... as I said after the last final, its past its glitzy glamour London Palladium style days.

As for the revamp...pwahh.. they tried to revamp Blind Date and it turned out rubbish and Cilla walked out.
