In these days of masses of choice of TV presenters, why oh why did the BBC see fit to use 'those two', with an emphasis on Sue Perkins who seemed determined to look as scruffy & bloke-like as possible (yes, I know).

SURELY there are other presenters out there that are less nauseating?

Oh well, it'll be Celebrity Jungle next as they move further down the 'I Used To Be A Celebrity Once' list.....

Because they've got 59,999,999 other people to please, for one.

I've liked Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc as a pairing on TV for many many years, albeit its been a while since they were last together.

You don't - fair enough. I can't stomach Piers Moron, and its unfathomable to me why he's succeeded in TV, but there you go.

But your veiled reference to the fact that she's lesbian - really, that's a bit tacky, don't you think?

There's crimes against television abound out there - including Piers Morgan as Gavin says - and you pick on Sue Perkins? Odd one to start out with.

Also, the lesbian comment was unnecessary.

I don't think she minds anyone knowing about it. And I expect she's really quite attractive to some like-minded ladies.

Its always curious to read men criticising lesbian women for looking mannish when, for the women concerned, being attractive to blokes is the furthest thing from their minds.

C'est la vie.

I like Mel and Sue too it's good to see them back on screen together again.

The thing that makes them so good at presenting Bake Off is that I'm never sure if they're being serious or very subtley taking the piss out of the whole thing.

I don't think she had a choice since Rhona Cameron outed her on live television.

I really like Sue Perkins but she does seem to be on a lot of things lately, and it's good to see her back with Mel.

Back to the programme, did anyone notice the contestants wore the same clothes on "Day 1" as they did on "Day 2" of each round?

Although since Mel went away from telly to sprog she has come into her own. She's great on Just a Minute and The News Quiz

Couldn't disagree with the original poster more. Mel and Sue make The Great British Bake Off, they're a great presenting duo - they know when to intervene with a mildly amusing quip, and when to stay in the background or just play it straight (absolutely no pun intended).

Indeed, I was only wondering whether an evening version of Late Lunch - a gentle, hour-long food-themed Mel and sue-hosted magazine show with a live audience, lots of tips and newcomers showing their cooking talent, might be a way for BBC Two to capitalise on the massive viewership of this series... anyone?

Fantastic idea. I've always said there aren't enough cookery shows on BBC Two!

I love Mel and Sue and they're part of what's made the programme such a sucess

That was essentially what Late Lunch was and it didn't really work, I don't think it would work as well now they're older either

Incidentally ITV's summer replacement for Loose Women - Gino and Mel - was very Light Lunch like in terms of format and design
