Amazon have announced that the name of the new show will be The Grand Tour and will be filmed in a different worldwide location each week.

*

After months of deliberation and lots of useful suggestions from the public, for which the guys are very grateful, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond & James May have decided that, because they are taking their new Amazon Prime show around the world, it will be called The Grand Tour.

Not only will the feature films be shot across different locations, but for the first time ever the studio audience recordings will travel every week, all housed within a giant tent. Amazon customers around the world will have the chance to be in the audience when tickets are released through prize draws this summer.

A bit of a dull name, surely they could have done much better than that?

It's also a little specific as a brand - they've lost the link to motoring, which is probably a good thing, but they've tied it to a sort of 'roadshow' type format. What happens if they decide to do something different in a few years?

I notice that one rejected name was 'Automates'... That's perfect, why not that?

So they're not ditching the studio set up completely then.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the premiere episode is ready to go and made available on the day Top Gear finally launches, which I thought was supposed to be early May but clearly isn't.

What does the GT in GTi stand for then?

There are plenty of cars with the suffix GT (grand tourer). Also it's TG backwards.

Sunday 29th May, apparently.

That is true, but how many people will make that connection and will it be known as TGT/GT?

Still it's a poor name

It's a far better name than 'Automates'. Car enthusiasts will make the GT connection, more casual viewers will see the travel aspect.

It's still incredibly dull though, and as I say not really a brand they can expand to other formats should they want to

Gear Knobs was the best suggestion

I've seen this sentiment expressed many times. They're not allowed to use the word 'gear' in any form, (no matter how good the wordplay).
