I've not watched Granada Tonight for a while, so imagine my surprise tonight when it's a bit different (only a bit).

There's only one presenter! Lucy Meacock looks really lonely all on her own! Also, So Rahman did a news roundup from the newsroom, perched on a desk! A bit Channel 5, that!

I don't know if Lucy is usually on her own, perhaps Rob McLaughlin is off for some reason and James Cooper couldn't fill in. I noticed that Lucy did the afternoon news on the last few days as well, which I've never seen before! She's very good at it- very lively.

I hope they have a bit of a relaunch soon like we thought they would. The studio is great, but their graphics don't really fit in. They have a nice purple studio with colourful seats (no desk!), yet they have those horrid American looking red and blue graphics. They need some nice new purple and white ones.

Ooh, Martyn Davies is on talking about the weather! That doesn't usually happen! I think he's talking about sand raining everywhere.

Aaaaah, Lucy looked so lonely at the end with no-one to chat to when the lights went down! She was forced to look down at her script to look busy! Aaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Big Phil, the reason the graphics look so American is because...well, they are American. Smile

One80 did their graphics, and they are out of Boston, Massachusetts. In fact, Granada's using the GFX that were once in use by the Hearst-Argyle owned stations in the States. (The BBC's not the only organization in the world with a corporate look!)

Really? Well that makes it even worse! Why can't we have our own? Ah well, at least they didn't nick them off Yorkshire for once.

Or at the very least put back those graphics which they used for a short while before these ones!

Who is old enough to remember the likes of Robert Dougall, Kenneth Kendal, Richard Baker and Peter Woods presenting the BBC News Headlines perched on a desk in the newsroom in the late 60s - complete with those so attractive venitian (sp?) blinds in the background.  A straight two minute read with no stills or tape.

Kenneth Kendall, yes he reminds me of Treasure Hunt!
