Thanks for all that info Roger. Alot always seems to have changed everytime I go back "home".

As an aside, was this a new composite shot they had for the intro to the 2nd half of Corrie last night? I don't recall seeing it before.

It's been on before, I haven't watched Corrie in a while, but it has been used previously.

Again thats a mock-up as the Metrolink does run near Granada, but it's the other way if you've ever been down the Altrincham or Eccles route or the normal Liverpool to Manchester railway line.

Yeah it has been used on occasion. I think that's been doctored, since if I rightly recall the railway viaducts that cross through Granada studios are all disused.

It's funny how the characters on Coro have never mentioned going on the tram-- obviously the Weatherfield Wayfarer sees to all their public transport needs Laughing

I saw the Coronation Street once from the back of the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, seemed quite different to how I'd have imagined. Still, I don't know anything about it.

I find that pic funny because you can see quite clearly in some corry scenes that the viaduct and brewery building (museum of science and industry) would colide with each other, especially now they have started filming the end of the viaduct and museum buildings when they shoot scenes outside Michelle's Flat (No.12). I'm just waiting for the hilton skyscraper to get in the shot. Wink

The corry viaduct isn't real, it was literally a wall with three arches in it when built in 1982 and they tacked the new stage 1 studio onto it in 1990. The Arch beside Dev's shop is the access door from the studios

The viaduct from the original set still exists and was used for Davenports garage. It's on the other side of the bonded warehouse which is behind the medical centre. This was also the New York street at the entrance to the studio tour (which I'm so pi:ssed is closed as I now live near by) Ok I'm in Cumbria but it's a tad nearer that the Isle of Wight

I find the set looks really small and tatty when you see it from the museum.

I wonder whats happened with the old baker street set. When I went on the tour a few times, the shop and house fronts doubled up as a mini museum and gift shops.

Also I remember there was a coronation street experience style thing, inside the viaduct area, which is now the medical centre i think...

Also there was an oversized room, kind of like the Dennis Waterman sketches, used for the borrowers I think, and near that was the Stars in their Eyes makeup rooms, the House of Commons Interior, used in Little Britain and House of Cards (with the single missing benches from the back on both sides, oh and Downing Street Exteriors.

My great aunt and her side of the family live in Old Trafford, so when visiting, I always wanted to go to Granada Studios, and the Air and Space Museum. they have the original Thunderbird 3 model there Wink

I was on a quiz on the ill-fated ITV Sport Channel which was filmed at Granada one Sunday morning. The studio was inside what was the DeVere Hotel on the New York street.

Just to clarify the studio thing at the Granada Studios. Studio 2 to my knowledge is not anything to do with 360media ( the joint venture between Granada and BBC ).
This studio has always been used for regional programmes and is the smallest there. It was in fact the original studio used when Coronation Street started all those years ago....and transmitted live.
Studio 12 is the largest....7500sq feet...used for Stars In Their Eyes, Soapstars Superstars etc...
Coronation Street interior is set at the side of the main studio complex....known as Stage 1.
Other studios in the main part are 6 and 8. Somehow 4 and 10 are missed....but Im sure I read somewhere there was a problem with studio 4....about asbestos.
Many great programmes have been produced at the Quay Street site....steeped in TV history......it will be a very sad day when it closes.
Oh and there was also studio 1.....this was used for in vision continuity...with great characters such as...Colin Weston, Jim Pope ( RIP ) , Charles Foster and Beverley Ashworth.
Great days. Sadly missed

Aye the good old days of Granada continuity, I miss them. I'm certain I still hear Charles Foster's voice on some local adverts from time to time, but it's a shame Colin Weston isn't on TV anymore, last I heard was that he was working for Marks and Spencer in Manchester.

And don't forget Andrew Brittain who seems to be on all of the Highways Agency adverts on the Radio.

Colin Weston works for M&S?! The one that was built to replace the bombed one?

I read it on Digital Spy Forums some time ago, but apparently he does so.

Yes it's the big M&S in Manchester City Centre which you are referring to.

i remember on the tour once, they took you into a gallery for a tv studio then the tour guide mistakenly pressed a few buttons and up popped colin weston on a monitor talking to the guide in a very pre recorded scripted conversation! he was infront of a cso with the granada logo on ala ivc style! then the tour continued onto a studio, a mock up of granadaa tonight or something, but as i remember the set in their looked nothing like any granada tonight or reports set ever aaired :S

I remember which one you mean, there were several screens and they were playing two videos, one was of the above that you mention and the other one was a bit of Don't Try This At Home (or something like that anyway), on our Tour everyone was watching the DTTAT clip, but I must have been the only person watching the CW one, it looked like (from what I remember) Colin rehearsing, but it was almost ten years ago so my mind is a little fuzzy.

I remember on the entrance to the tour there was a big screen which seemed to be playing a corporate advert for Granada and what they did. For me as an 11 year old I couldn't believe it when they showed the Granada, Yorkshire, Tyne Tees and LWT idents of 1998 all in one go.

Even more so when viewed from the top of the Beetham Tower (on Deansgate)!
