Ive just had a look at Carlton Preview page and it says
ITV1 Carlton not ITV LONDON?
ITV is starting to confuse me
I think for Legal reasons ITV Plc. cant really banish Carlton & LWT fully as both are more or less seperate franchises. They are both paying diffrent amounts of money afterall
The header on LWT's teletext pages says LWT, but the channel identifier thing (only available on some TV's) still says LONDON WEEKEND TV
Is the channel identifier name you can get on some channels part of the teletext signal or something and can only be decoded by certain TV's? I haven't worked out how they broadcast that information...
Also rather interesting on Page 690 (LWT's transmitter engineering information page) it says "Details of transmitter maintenance for LWT Television will appear here"
So, they're keeping the LWT name there, but calling it "London Weekend Television Television"!
I think every region is still like that when you hit ITV on it. Even though it has now changed to ITV1 Granada Text, it still says Granada on the 600 pages, plus it still has 'Granada Television' in the black bar at the bottom.
I wonder if ITV plc will take a slightly more benevolent approach to the network's regionality now that it has been able to merge.
I still suspect that a lot of the ruthlessness in expunging the regional names 18 months ago was part of an attempt to look as unified as possible to encourage the government to rubber-stamp the merger.
Perhaps there will now be a partial and gentle drift back to some degree of regionality?
I still think it would be cool of ITV1 to include a short regional ident before they cut to local ads. Might add a bit of value for local advertisers, too. Seems to work well in the States, anyway.
And the reason why ITV(Carlton) got rid of HTV, LWT is because they thought it would be confusing,
No, they *said* they got rid of it because it was confusing, caused branding clash, etc, etc (with no real qualification for why it suddenly became confusing after more than 40 years of regional brands). The actual reason they got rid of it is because ITV plc (as is now) doesn't like ITV in the form that it is. They own most of a regional network of local stations. They would much rather own a single national channel. And they aren't going to let the fact that they aren't licenced to do that stand in the way of them pretending that they run a 'channel' called ITV1.
