So to sum up: Granada have rolled all drama productions in their regions into the Granada name but to retain a link to the region the show was produced in they include that region's name (LWT) or logo (chevron) into the endcap. Sorted.
BTW I watched ep. 1 on Anglia. No particular reason, just picked one of the 16 at random! :
wasnt night and day a united commision in response to carlton's come back of crossroads?
it was supposed to be a meridian production for united but due to all the takeovers and the like its ended up a granada production for lwt (theres something odd about that)
PS cmon granada graphics people replace that end caption with a new one as we can still see the words 'A GRANADA PRODUCTION' faintly in the background of the end caption - especially on the left hand side! Whoever made this didnt airbrush that bit enough!

I'm sure I read this somewhere before but
When Day and Night was commissioned it was a United Production. This remained the case until well into development. The soap needed several reworks before they felt confident enough to produce it. Whilst this was going on United and LWT Productions were merged. However there were still 'alledged' problems in pre-production and sister company,Granada TV were brought on board to produce the show - having decades of experience in producing soaps....hence the bizarre end cap....
BTW. I actually think that despite the low cost of it it looks very good and is refreshingly different for ITV.
Shouldn't it be 'A Granada/LWT Joint Production' then?
You don't see at the end of Bruce's Price is Right, 'A Grundy production for Yorkshire Television' do you!, You see a joint production caption

This would have been badged as Meridian had UBE not been acquired by Granada. As the UBE production business was merged with LWT Productions, we've got this hybrid prod cap which almost certainly won't last for much longer, now it's been pointed out to the 'brand guardians'!
To add more fire to the argument, it is an LWT production, they are the branch who physically made and paid for the programme.
However, through the recent *dual branding* trick that GMG have been pulling, plus the unusual merging of resources, the production end-cap is wrong. It should be like the 'Heartbeat' end-cap we saw. However, I fear that this is another *very quick* development of the GMG branding tools.
Another answer could be that because GMG got UN&M's ITV channels (and Night and Day), Granada........ nope I give up, it can't be explained!
It's amazing how the politics of television can spark so much comment
