Granada logo in titles

What was the programme (or programmes) ? (August 2009)

The BBC has its logo in the titles of its programmes, and we've seen the nations introducing their logos into theirs.

But back in the midst of time, shortly after pre-programme production idents were dropped from ITV, I recall seeing the Granada 'G' used in the titles of one its children's programmes - just as the BBC use theirs now.

However, I can't remember the name. I think the titles were set in a fun-fair - possibly on a rollercoaster, but it's a long time ago.

Anyone else remember this?

'Hold Tight', shot on location at Alton Towers? (AT was borderline Granada/Central region)

I remember a visit there in the 80's & saw the actual set live !

Don't remember the G Logo unless it was superimposed live?

Anyone know to any 'Hold Tight' opening titles anywhere?

You've given me an idea for another thread!

Tickle on the Tum used to have a Granada logo on their opening credits, I used to think it was because Children's ITV didn't allow idents.

Wish they'd re show Film Fun though

I was about to poo-poo your memories there 7 Network and say that you must have been confusing the old ITV "FrontCap" with a logo appearing in the titles but a quick YouTube search (actually for Hold Tight but ended up looking a bit further!) found this:

with a nice keyed Granada G over the titles...! I don't remember seeing this on any other ITV programme...

The video embedding only works with .flv video files, so you'd have to host them somewhere to link them.

If you do have .flv files in the future, feel free to use the Metropol upload service.

Do you think they started doing that when CITV stopped showing front caps but ITV still were using them? Would explain why its children's programmes in particular that got that treatment.

That certainly makes sense. It just shows how attached to regional identity the old system was and how much has changed. I've heard that Yorkshire Television launched their expensive 'Liquid Gold' front cap just before ITV dropped frontcaps and were very annoyed at the decision!

I think the Liquid Gold ident was in use for a good while before frontcaps were scrapped, as not long after, Yorkshire added animated endcaps to their programmes with their next ident (the 21 Years one).

I do think though that TVS's spinning shiny ident and Anglia's flag idents both had a very short lives as pre-programme idents on the network.

Incidentally, I know Central and Yorkshire both had full idents as endcaps for a while in the period between when frontcaps were ditched, and the introduction of the 1989 generic '...Production for ITV' endboards. Did any other regions do this?

Yes, the two examples you mentioned as being short pre-programme idents were both used as animated endcaps at one point, TVS on the comedy That's Love and Anglia on Survival, not sure if they used them on other programmes though.
