If you have memory problems , by the way , the doctor person on This Morning recommends " Gingko Biloba " tablets - in fact he swears by them ( not in the way you're thinking ) . ho- ho. Very Happy

Not much use really, seeing as I'd forget to take them.

Secondly, you didn't read the post. I said that the regional names were all but relics. I did not exclude Granada as a regional name.
Granada will continue to exist primarily as a production brand, which is unsurprising as it is has a long history as such.

All fair enough, keep the Granada brand as a production title, but it'll be more than faintly ridiculous if Tyne Tees, Border etc disappear as regional titles and Granada doesn't, don't you think?

The whole thing has echoes of 1996 when YTV decided it was a good idea to rename TTTV as C3 North East (equivalent to ITV1 NE if you think about it) but vetoed the idea for their own patch. Very petty IMHO -- if it isn't good enough for one region then it isn't good enough for any, and will eventually backfire embarrasingly.

It's all academic anyway. It can't be long now before ITV gets gobbled up by some foreign TV company, and the suits at ITV plc will reap the benefits of their empire-building and effective asset stripping over the years. Can't come soon enough for me -- and the sooner ITV loses its privileged position as a terrestrial broadcaster the better, as an aside.

Big 'if' there. The only regional names that have vanished so far have been:

Arrow Carlton (London) and LWT - to provide a unified ITV1 London brand
Arrow HTV, because ITV1 HTV (as has been pointed out) just isn't a sensible on-air name (especially as it would have been ITV1 HTV Wales or ITV1 HTV West, which is a mouthful anyway)

As I've indicated already, I think all of the remaining regional names will eventually disappear when the 'pure' ITV1 identity of the last 2 years has bedded down. It will mean minor changes such as 'Granada Reports' being renamed. I do think ITV will change all the regions at the same time if/when it does this - there's going to be very little sentimentality within the offices of ITV plc over Granada as a regional name by then.

With Ofcom now openly discussing the phased withdrawal of ITV's regional obligations, would ITV really consider such a rebranding exercise worthwhile?

Good point -- chances are ITV will simply allow the remaining names to drift over until the day comes when they disappear completely.

To be honest, I can't remember the last time I saw a regional ident in prime time on Tyne Tees anyway, much less mention of the station name by the announcer. On other stations, the names are referenced quite often, on TTTV not at all. Perhaps that's why TTTV are the only station I know of still stubbornly giving out their website in all programmes (tynetees.tv rather than itv.com/tynetees) and saying "...on Tyne Tees" on regional trailers, which to the best of my knowledge the other stations aren't doing any more. Perversely, TTTV aren't using the "ITV|TYNE TEES Production" slide very often, preferring the standard "ITV Production" one instead. All very odd, but then TTTV seem to have been employing a "we won't do as we're told" attitude for some years now with regards London Very Happy

We do get one here in Granada now and again with Phil from this morning on it. I wonder if they will bother to make any new Regional idents for Nov1?

When Westcountry trail anything (including networked programmes) within their news output they refer to it as being 'on Westcountry' and show the stacked 'ITV Westcountry' logo instead of an ITV1 logo. There's a little bit of resilliance going on at Plymouth too methinks.

Okay, so "dog in the manger" does actually mean something.
But so what? Rolling Eyes

The thing you're trying to "qualify" here involves you having told a fellow TV-Forum-er that they're "talking b*llocks".

So defending the "dog in the manger" bit hardly makes you any better! Rolling Eyes

To begin with , the fact you hadn't heard of " dog in the manger " speaks volumes ( I'm not talking about the control on your tv now , by the way ) . I was merely pointing out that he was quite happy to see htv go down the pan whilst swearing alleigance to the granada brand name. That's all , I've been called worse things - and I bet you have ! broadband cowboy,

Regardless of whether it is intentional on your part or not... THE FACT IS that the way you make your TV-related points ALWAYS comes across badly.

I'm no saint. I can be an unjustifiably rude b*stard to TV Forum-ers when I'm in "a mood" (just ask Neil Green Embarassed ). But you are "horrible" in pretty much EVERY post you make.

Are you so ignorant, so as to have not noticed that seemingly EVERYONE ELSE HERE (or, at least, a significant percentage) react badly to every post you leave?

Are you now going to be *sad* enough to trawl your past posts and their subsequent reactions, to try and statistically disprove the above sentence? It wouldn't surprise me... (because you seem to always SPECTACULARLY MISS OTHER PEOPLE'S POINTS )

Being sh*tty just because, say, a fellow Forum-er's point-of-view on a given subject differs from your own (or whatever you reason for being sh*tty happens to be, on any given occasion) is the kind of thing that should/will get you BANNED!

Can you really have failed to notice that all you ever seem to suceed in doing is to get everybody's backs up?

Are you only here to see how unpopular you can make yourself, or what? Rolling Eyes Evil or Very Mad

It just proves that the other poster has a different dialect to you.

Which proves you haven't bothered to take the slightest bit of notice of anything I've typed. I never swore allegiance to anything. I was trying to explain why I thought what had happened had happened.

I'm generally a calm and collected poster, but I find my blood pressure rising when I read your postings.
