I thought the official name now is ITV1 Carlton Granada for the Granada Region!?
I would prefer all Central News bulletins to be called "ITV Central News" Central News at six sounds saft.

Because it was the only one which was a 3 letter abbreviation ending in TV.
'ITV1 HTV' would be a ridiculous name.

So why did HTV have to change it's name if no-one else did ?

Why would it be a ridiculous name? "HTV ITV1" used to exist on all of its idents from 1999-2002 and noone was coming out with things such as "What a stupid name that is then!" at the time!
What ITV should have done is to have renamed the HTV region by its full name HARLECH. Then you would have things such as "HARLECH NEWS" and you would have got away with "ITV HARLECH" then. That would then still remind people of HTV as it would STILL be HTV as well as getting rid of the supposedly ridiculous name of "ITV HTV".
Yorkshire TV are a classic example! They refer to themselves as ITV Yorkshire but also call themselves YTV too, but never used to put "YTV ITV" on their idents cos that would be ridiculous...apparently!

Apart from YTV of course. So why NOT call it Harlech ?
Any objections inspector ?

In London the 6pm programme is "London Tonight", which is also used during the 10.30 News and at weekends.
And, while HTV viewers get their knickers in a twist, remember that ITV London has no such thing as regional identity at all! Not even a decent local news programme...

It also seems a bit odd to me that HTV is the only station without a separate name for it's flagship 6PM bulletin. Implementing this at the same time as the corporate revamp would seem to make sense.

YTV and STV haven't been called that on air for many years, they're Yorkhire Television and Scottish Television..... the latter doesn't use the ITV1 name anyway the former is ITV1 Yorkshire.
UTV is still UTV, but it isn't part of ITV PLC so doesn't count
'ITV1 Harlech' would have been as valid as 'ITV1 Granada' or 'ITV1 Meridian', but the Harlech name was dropped over 30 years ago for a very good reason - it refered to the founder who was no longer involved with the company and a town in a small part of its lerge region. It's the equivalent of calling the local TV station for the south of England;'Beaulieu TV'

But there was no universal ITV1 branding then, there were still local idents and the ITV News division had yet to be formed. Besides, like so many decisions that were needed at ITV in the past few years nothing major could have been decided before the merger. Just because common sense has prevailed now doesn't mean that no-one wanted it before!
But as mentioned above they ditched the 'Harlech' name 30 years ago, it means nothing to anyone. The words 'West' and 'Wales', although lacking in inagination are exactly what they say they are on the tin
Surely you can see that a name made of 2 nearly identical 3-letter acronyms is just silly.

Yes it does. HTV Group Ltd continue to hold the ITV network/channel 3 franchise to broadcast a dual programme service to Wales and the west of England. They even have a website at www.htv.co.uk. There is no such thing as a national channel called ITV1, it's all a branding exercise. In licencing terms, HTV is just as alive now as it was 10, 20 or even 30 years ago.
Wales Headlines? Update West? Maybe naff names, but with a bit more imagination over more than the half a second it took me to come up with those you could come up with names for regional updates.
Even though the Sky EPG quite happily has 'ITV1 HTV West' and 'ITV1 HTV Wales' on it?

Erm, it (HTV, a stand-alone company), doesn't exist anymore! Regional subsiduries of a bigger comany (ITVplc) however, do exist in its place!

That statement overlooks the fact that all other bulletins (i.e. other than the 18:00 weekday edition) couldn't very well use those titles! The shorter bulletins would still have to be called, say, ITV Wales News (or whatever).
