So, the new merged entity will be called Granada?
[Excuse my ignorance, I didn't follow the specifics of the merger plan too closely - I watch so little of ITV, if it disappeared tomorrow I can't say I'd miss it]

As I understand it, that's what is now Granada Bristol.
No - I'm pretty sure it isn't the same company ...

Merci ... Just there for the duration of Swindon's bad run ... Well, perhaps a little longer if I fancy!

OK, let the Granada Bristol discussion continue.

This took some digging - but the company I'm thinking of was Partridge Films, and Whataday was right - Granada own them, and they are now Granada Bristol based up next to the BBC now.
Quote:
Carlton Communications is to buy the HTV, the British independent television franchise for Wales and the west of England, from Granada Media. It will pay £181million ($271.5m) in cash plus its 20 per cent holding in Meridian, the ITV franchise for southern and south-east England. HTV was recently acquired by Granada when it bought United News and Media and it is a regulatory requirement that it sells the franchise within six months.
It is understood Granada will retain control of HTV's Bristol-based production unit which has particularly strong wildlife assets in Survival and Partridge Films. These will now be available to feed Granada's distribution catalogue and broadcasting outlets worldwide. It had been understood that Granada had been considering a sale to Canada's CanWest, with whom it has eneterd into a collaborative relationship.
According to Charles Allen, Chairman of Granada Media, 'This is a good deal for our shareholders and secures a balanced and stable future for ITV which will allow it to grow and compete effectively in the digital age. In partnership with Carlton, we are now well placed to optimise the value of ITV and ONdigital to move forward speedily with a unified and clear strategy.'
The final round of ITV consolidation (between Granada and Carlton) is expected to take place sooner rather than leter, not least because there is now effective co-ownership of the network.

WH
They're hoping to call it "ITV Plc". However, I believe the plan is that the merged company's productions will be labelled "A Granada Production".
I did hear a whisper that Carlton Screen Sales was to become Granada Screen Sales, but I don't think that would happen, unless someone here knows better?
