id like to know, at GMG north,  do announcers work like:
a)at 8:30 lets have a regional, by recording 3 intros and do 1 region live or
b) do they say at 7:30 granada can have a local intro, tyne tees at 8:00 etc....

and do border get equal treatment - or are they in local announcing terms, neglected?

It's either
All channels have an announcement which mentions the station name
or
One Announcement goes out across all four regions

When it is one announcement, they don't all mention ITV1 or any other nonsense, Sometimes because of the constraints of the schedule layed down by the ITV Network in Leeds, theres no time to say much more than 'Now Betty gets a surprise in Coronation Street'

Plus if they used a long ident, there would be even less time to mention a channel name

And that blue-spinny hearts thing has just been seen!

By the way its Helen Aitken tonight, and a regional announcement into The Premiership

Ahh, you beat me to it, BlaydononTyne. Yes, it was shown on all GMG North stations at 10:30, right after 'It shouldn't happen to a TV performer', and just before the ads. This is definitely something Leeds hardly ever do, but we seem to be seeying more of them, so I think some changes regarding continuity are coming soon. Why they can't just use proper 'coming up next' slides though is past me - glassy rotating hearts is just another image which is totally inconsistent with every other graphic GMG used.

Exactly, there are far too many images no, what with these purple endcaps, old TTTV idents, hearts ident, local idents, it's a GMG mess!

Maybe they are practicising doing coming next announcements, perhaps in readiness for new idents / presentation ? I can't see them keeping those hearts for long, especially as ITV has dumped the hearts theme.

If there are changes afoot, then they really need to sharpen up some of the technical aspects. Regional announcements (and others at 3-5pm and after 11pm which are also recorded) being cut off, fading out trailers before they are finished, soft-fades into programmes coming out like mush, fading-to-black after each trailer rather than streaming them which virtually every other station does and looks far more professional and so on.....

The longer announcements are good and should stay, along with getting those two older announcers off their lazy backsides and make more regional announcements. If they are going to keep the long announcements however they should introduce idents more like Central used to do a few years back where there is something interesting on-screen but produced in such a way that they don't look strange talked over.

Take note of half of that list and they might be getting somewhere!

Maybe the continuity at Leeds need to go to the Carlton Continuity School!http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif

So you'd prefer to be watching 'Carlton broadcasting to the North East Region' with Carlton generic idents, rather than what you have at present?http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/shocked.gif

I'm new to this forum and have thoroughly enjoyed reading all the comments, but one question remains unanswered...why cant the CA's be in-vision any more. I grew up in Granadaland and enjoyed seeing the announcers and the often garish backdrops they appeared with. A particular favourite was Beverley Ashworth who could smoulder seductively while linking into World in Action or Granada Reports....ahh those were the days!

Ahem..anyway, surely it's possible to record the multiple announcements that Leeds need to churn out on Video with the appropriate regional ident or even ITV1 generic. It might improve the whole look of itv1 - I mean lowercase letters-tut tut.

Well in Yorkshire we've never had invision continuity, its not the YTV way, some regions did, some regions didn't, But Redvers Kyle's announcements back in the 70s over static captions are always refered to as being popular at the time

I did not mean it in that way, of course not Andrew, I meant that the continuity is done in a sleek-professional way like CARLTON do theirs with COMING NEXT slides with a consistant image to the ident image etc etc!

It seems BlaydonOnTyne that the style has simply gone out of fashion, and that is a shame. In the North East we too had a (mostly) wonderful set of friendly faces to take us through a thrilling night's telly. But the suits think we'd prefer to see an ident. Ho hum...

As for Carlton, certainly not Andrew, and I wouldn't like to see a generic itv1 either. We'll just have to see what happens in the months ahead. But changing Leeds's output for the better wouldn't cost too much (if anything, some of what I suggested would simplify the programming of the servers in fact and look better at the same time).
