edit: The cables in the image at this address look suspiciously like det-cord (explosive cables) or detonation trigger cables.

They were lying on the floor in 2005 when I filmed the studios, they've been ripped out the walls.

1 - It would never be a tape of the programme. It's most definitely not a VT tape.
2 - Reel to Reel machines exist outside of that building Wink

The creeping around inside a building that you're not supposed to be in is dodgy.

1 and 2 understood, but I do agree that creeping around in a structurally unsound building is dangerous, almost definitely illegal and I echo noggin's words: I advise people IN THE STRONGEST TERMS not to enter the building unless they are fully aware of the risks.

There's no way they would ever be able to blow it down, it's not really tall enough to be worth it and being in the middle of Birmingham there's no way they'd do it anyway.

That cinema looks great, unfortunately it's also one of the aspects of the building that shows how outdated it is.... a TV station doesn't need a viewing theatre any more

Yep, I don't think they are trigger cables, I think it's just old wiring from when the studios were gutted.

Not so - I believe they are still in wide use when people such as journalists are shown programmes before their transmission, but are not given tapes or DVDs of them for fear that they may leak to certain tabloid newspapers. Or the Internet.

Channel 4 HQ have a "cinema"/theatre, I would assume for screenings for journalists etc. It was also used in shows filmed there such as Frontal.

There are of course still independent viewing rooms around, but none the scale of that place. In most cases TV stations will use a conference/meeting room with a projector or large screen TV at one end.

Perhaps they are allowed in site but the condition is "don't take any of the stuff".

Not wanting to put anyone at risk at all but if anyone is think of going in there could someone get me the Central Crockery please, thanks Wink Very Happy

It is rather sad looking at those pictures, especially imagining all of the people (famous and non famous) that have walked through that building, thanks nationalised ITV Mad

Who is lighting that place exactly, I mean who's paying the bills?

The BBC had a viewing theatre at Centre House, but that has closed, now that Drama have moved to the Design Building (now called the "Drama Building")

The BBC also had (and may still have) a viewing theatre in Soho - where BBC Choice (or was it Three) were also briefly based before all the channel management moved to the 6th floor (taking over bits of what was the old TV Newsroom)
