As a British Mac user, I can’t help but feel a little excluded sometimes by the big media companies. No TV shows available on the iTunes Store, and I can’t use 4OD or the BBC iPlayer. It seems that last one’s about to change.

Today, the BBC announced that they will ‘re-engineer’ the iPlayer to work with Macs, making the DRM technology cross-platform. Let’s hope that 4OD will follow suit.

Mac users, rejoice!

It was always planned to be ported over to the Mac - it was part of the agreement that was made with the DRM creators that a OSX version would appear in due course.

Incidentally the current version of iPlayer does work on a Mac.... ok through Bootcamp that is!

Good stuff! Though I'd been in the beeb in the past week and heard that the iplayer would have to work cross-platform so all users could have access.

I'm hoping this doesn't mean a move to Real format, which is truely awful IMHO.

Hmm. The lack of shows on iTunes isn't just a Mac problem, and 4oD doesn't work on Windows Vista either. Not that I'd want it to, from what I've heard on the forums it sounds like I'm better off without it. Laughing

It seems the iPlayer problem is the only "Mac-specific" one.
