He didn't have a bad experience at TVam. He was hired by Greg Dyke and Peter McHugh and during the time they were in charge he was perfectly happy there, they were going bust but as he says in Morning Glory by Ian Jones he liked the team there and it gave him opportunities to do the kind of popular journalism he liked to do. When Dyke and McHugh left he didn't like it as much under Bruce Gyngell and obviously the Brighton Bomb coverage was a disaster thanks to Gyngell's cost-cutting, so he left, but that was an issue with Gyngell and not breakfast TV as a whole.
Later he did Breakfast Time as a freelancer for hire but he didn't like that very much because it was a boring programme. But then his old mate Peter McHugh was back running GMTV and offered him a job, so he came back because it was McHugh and because he liked the format. Bruce Gyngell had long gone.
Stapleton has always says he likes doing popular journalism of the kind he used to do on Nationwide, a bit more tabloid than the likes of Panorama and with a bit more emphasis on human interest. That's exactly what breakfast TV serves up so it's no surprise he's appeared on it a lot, he's clearly happier there than he would be on Newsnight or something. And in turn, breakfast TV enjoys the stature and credibility that Stapleton gives them.
I wonder why he's worked in breakfast TV for so long, especially after his bad experience at TV-am.

I am looking forward to seeing John, Ranvir and possibly Kate on the main show; however as John and Ranvir will fit it, I was thinking will Kate? However, Kate did do a stint at Sky News in between her two GMTV stints so she should be professional enough for the new format.
I like Laura too; so please do not consider getting rid of her. I think she is much better than Lucy Versamy who seemed to change from her Sky News days when she came on Daybreak and wasn't the best. Kirsty Macabe was very good too.
I like to regional handovers but they need to get rid of the pause and also let the other presenters have ago at doing it rather than just Ben.
I like the way this week rather than Susanna taking the lead with the main story they have included Ben too; I do think at the start they should let Ben and Charlotte have a go at reading the headlines rather than just Susanna when they say Good Morning Britain and it goes into the titles.
It is different but I do like it.

Susanna looks very orange this morning; also this morning, Lee Comley did the Good Morning Central bulletin, he is much better than Balvinder, i must say.

The entertainment ticker is a good way to fill the space.
There seems to be more of a structure this morning with Ben & Susanna continuing to do the top story together and Charlotte then getting three stories in a row before Ben talked to James Mates (a good person to have connected to the show), and then to Sean with the sport.
The sofa's again being used for the David Cameron interview. Has the interview area been scrapped then?

Richard Arnold used the former interview area to trail the Entertainment News segment this morning. Interviews seem to have decamped to the sofa.
Actually I wouldn't be surprised if that was at the request of Cameron's people. MPs choose breakfast TV due to the friendly, comfy sofa-style interviews. A chair-on-chair interview could seem far colder.

Plus an important interview like that, Im sure Ben and Susanna wanted to do together.
Also as a side note, Both the main stories on Daily Mail at this moment are of Good Morning Britain exclusives (David Cameron and Freddy Starr). That'll be good publicity!! More exclusives like that could attracted a greater audience, and just shows the advantage of being based in London, which needs to be fully appreciated and used by ITV if they're after success.

A "Freddy Starr exclusive"? Urgh. A new nadir even for ITV breakfast. Far from "attracting a greater audience", this is a solid nail in the coffin as far as I'm concerned.
Move along... nothing to see here.

Really? Seems like a worthy exclusive to me, considering he was on most of the front pages last week.
