I recall it was discussed in this thread. UTV were effectively broadcasting illegally, and GMTV took a very dim view.

If that was to happen in today's ITV Breakfast set up, I wonder how ITV Breakfast would react and respond to it now.

I think now, they'd assess the situation and see if they could cover it better, and if not, run a 'Special Report' with STV/UTV being the feed below the graphics with commentary from GMB/Lorraine.

What?

I think ITV would look at the story breaking that has caused STV or UTV to break in, and think about if they can cover it better. If they CAN (which is unlikely), they'd warn UTV/STV and force them to bring ITV Breakfast back on air. If the CANNOT then, IMO, they would take the feed from STV/UTV and distribute it nationally as part of GMB and Lorraine.

Did Daybreak have regional news on bank holidays? Is it the norm or just a little bit of extra effort from GMB so close to launch?

Yes they did recently, well whenever Daybreak aired on a Bank Holiday.

It was because UTV opted one morning.

Between 1995 and January 2013, UTV Live bulletins were not transmitted during GMTV and Daybreak (ITV Breakfast);[1] The breakfast service was previously produced by Reuters, ITN, and subsequently Macmillan Media, following a dispute in 1994 when UTV opted out of GMTV to provide extra coverage of the Combined Loyalist ceasefire

Fascinating. I had no idea UTV (and STV) had stopped producing bulletins during GMTV and Daybreak, but found this example of one of MacMillan's NI bulletins on the company's YouTube channel:

Clearly no UTV branding in evidence, but the studio looks pretty much like the standard news set used by the ITV regions at the time. Does anyone know which studio these bulletins came from?

Well it's clearly just a green screen, presumably it was from a studio owned by MacMilan.

And here's the Scotland version. Ironic that Macmillan produced it, yet it was presented by STV annnouncer Cameron McKenna. This came from the Glasgow City Centre studio...

I'm guessing that it's STV and UTV that produce the local bulletins for their areas now on GMB?
