I have to say, every time I've seen Calendar opt, it's been pretty smooth too. On the odd occasion I've caught Granada (watching on ITV HD), it's been very clunky with a long pause before Ben speaks.

I have to say I find GMB very watchable indeed. It's not perfect, and I'm sure there are things which will change, but it's got an energy and confidence about it which was very much missing from any of the Daybreak incarnations.

ITV clearly aren't expecting big ratings from the start, as there's been very little publicity. I'm sure they want the programme to find its feet and grow audience naturally through word of mouth and people slowly discovering it, rather than giving it a big 'tah-dah' on day one as they did with Daybreak. I'm sure once the programme has gained a bit of momentum and they're confident they've got it right, that'll be the time to start promoting it and really growing the figures.

I genuinely think BBC Breakfast has something to worry about this time, maybe not in the short term, but give it a few months for people to slowly discover news in the morning needn't be so drab, and they could well find themselves slipping in the ratings.

Thats such a good point. I noticed that on day one. They said welcome to the new show and moved on. That was the perfect way to handle the launch, not a bunch of wasted time intro'ing people. Just get on with. I was half expecting them to do that, but was pleasantly surprised. Plow on, get the work done, make your mark and if you do well, then sing your praises.

Just because BBC is the behemoth of tv in the UK, ITV doesnt have to jump and down like a little kid screaming "look at me, look at me." I was happy they felt they can compete and they dont need to blow the horn too soon. Come out the gate big loud bossy and glossy and get it done. And if your ratings increase to a level that make the bosses happy... drop the mic.

. . .

I waited a week before offering my meagre musings . . .

I watched the launch show on ITV HD which kindly offered me the irrelevant 'Central' version on Sky (about as useful as news of traffic jams in Glasgow), and the transition to the news from someone else's region was clunky to say the least.

They didn't fix it over the week, and they still slapped ITV News astons behind the GMB ones until at least Thursday. It looked unprofessional to say the least.

I've tried watching the programme, but I find the appearance of a quiz quite offensive when I am in 'wake up mode', and someone trying to scam money from me makes me think I've stepped into a re-run of that Cambridge Wedding - especially after that ludicrous claim on Tuesday that Will & Kate had made "£billions" for the UK economy. No actual evidence was provided, and Ofcom have a complaint regarding that bit of propaganda.

The programme is bright and breezy, but so is an empty bus station at 6am.

Wheeling in people from Sky, ex-GMTV and BBC Breakfast doesn't scream success to me, it says desperation, especially when you are mainly interviewing so-called ITV celebs with shows to promote.

ITV should settle for the 600K they get for this slot and accept that they bought a pup. Either that, or hand it back to Ofcom and let another muppet try their hand.

Unfortunately I was unable to see the launch episode as I was outside the country and didn't have my laptop to view.

But after watching both yesterdays and todays - I do believe I am a convert!!!!

I am not a huge fan of Ms Reid but her aside the panel of presenters are a good eclectic mix and do work together although as some have said already possibly they do need more defined roles. The link into Good Morning Granada are a bit clunky with the long time gap of Ben standing there before actually starting his link.

Also the end of the programme needs to be defined as it is a separate "monster" from Lorraine now and it ought to have an outro.

For me its more like the type of show I want in the morning - "vibrant" news with the odd bit of fluff here and there - it is very akin to 7's Sunrise, a show I do enjoy watching when I am in Australia!

This is actually how CBS This Morning's current incarnation started and now years later, while still in third-the ratings have gone up and have become the proper alternative on US network television

That's not how the real world works. (see also theatre of News/ITV News at Ten return). The GMB launch had an Audience Appreciation Index (AI) of 59.The only thing which scored worse this week was a party political broadcast from the BNP Shocked . Life outside the tv forum eh.

The two reviewers on the Richard bacon show were totally right when they told Helen Warner that it was a frantic mess of a show. People who want actual news aren't going to watch a programme who treats Robbie Williams getting a woman pregnant as news.

I waited until 7.10 today to get the Gerry Adams story because they thought that 'shopping secrets' , Peaches Geldof, and an long dull Interview with a nobody MP who hates Jeremy Clarkson were more important. Don't get me started on wheel of fortune or the sight of Susanna jiggling in her seat to Will Young music.

In the real world it's advertisers they have to keep happy, which is why there on their 4th set of presenters in 4 years.

Are you a bitter ex-Daybreak employee Cando? You seem to have an irrational hatred of the show and of anybody who points out the numerous positives.

Well at least Charlie Brooker had a swipe at the viewers on tonight's HIGNFY moaning about them not seeing 'Susanna's Leg's'...
London Lite, ETP1 Forever and STV Today gave kudos

that may be true, but you have sniped from the sidelines at every single relaunch (quite a feat, considering their differences), without so much as offering your opinion on what would work
