They weren't expecting massive ratings first of all, surely? Hopefully by now they'll realise that they need to let the show develop into what it's going to be, making no format changes, tweaks if needed. As a few have said, by the winter i hope they're not tempted to throw cushions around the set, with ornaments and a red sofa.

Couldn't agree more.

Hard to say what their ratings expectations were - but I'm sure they won't want low ratings to become the story, as it's only going to be off-putting for potential new viewers.

Going back to day 1 and the clip posted earlier in the thread, where after the big and brash US style intro, it then flipped into Andi's live from Leeds, which was basically shout-outs from market traders, which is nothing new from the GMTV/Daybreak template.

If I was watching that live at 6am, I'd tune into Breakfast instead. While I understand that this is going to be aimed at 30+ mothers, the Peters feature jars with the newsier format.

Nice graphics - getting better now that they've eased up on the whizzy weather bug animations.
Very nice studio - nice, fresh, bright and modern.
The content is good - clearly news driven, but with enough entertainment fluff to vary it.
The pacing is nice too - fast enough to be informed in 20-30 mins.

There's a couple of bad hangovers which have remained from the GMTV era though, called Richard Arnold & Ross King. In this day and age, we really don't need a "showbiz editor" and a Hollywood Correspondent. Perhaps my feelings on those roles would be different if the people filling them were different - who knows? And THAT Hollywood backdrop - that must have been there since the 90s, right?

Get rid of those two annoying creatures, along with Andi Peters and his Wheel of W*nk and that alone would increase the quality further. I understand the need to have a competition for revenue purposes. If they ditched the OB and just had the 30 second competition VT in there, that'd be better in my opinion.

I think the important thing is that they don't get the jitters and start reverting to GMTV Mk 3.0 because of ratings expectations. They say they're in this for the long haul, and they need to prove that by letting the format settle for at least 6-12 months. Hopefully the audience will grow organically in that time.

I think Ross King is technically their 'West Coast Correspondent' but as he comes from entertainment, he won't get many 'news' stories.

Sorry to sound pedantic, but the 'Hollywood backdrop ' was replaced for daybreak, GMTV and GMB. It's a more realistic looking one.

That doesn't change the fact that it is dated.

Title aside, it's obviously an editorial decision to keep him on. They're obviously happy with the content he brings. If they were after more news stories from the West Coast, then they should either 1. tell him to do that, or; 2. replace him. If he is there to cover other stories from the West Coast, then I dread to think what a report on an earthquake etc would be like. *cringes*

The point is, he's a product of the 90s reporting on showbiz stories which could easily be done from the London studio. Being in LA has no bearing on the content he actually brings.

Also, from a social networking point of view it's a misuse of #GMB to display it throughout the programme. They should be putting it on screen during moments within the programme that it is likely to trend. They should promote @GMB instead.

They should probably just ditch the hashtag. #GoodMorningBritain trended on day 1, showing that absolutely nobody in the world gave a hoot about what ITV wanted them to tweet. If anything they should have the Twitter account flashing up as @GMB - hashtags often form organically and it's cringe when a channel tries to force one to happen.

Not good news today, 640,000 for yesterday's ratings.

I mean, I was expecting them to drop to about 600,000 on day two but still disappointing to see a decline.

Taking notice of the ratings from day to day like that isn't really useful or a good indication of a trend.

There will be an element of churn: viewers leaving because they don't like the new programme and new ones discovering it... but that doesn't all happen over 4 days

Indeed, in the first week - regardless of publicity - you'll always get people tuning in to see what it's like, along with the inevitable churn.

I know, I pretty much posted the exact same thing yesterday when the ratings were revealed, but it would be nice to see it settle around 700,000 by the end of the week rather than head towards 600,000 or less.

If anything, it might go down further tomorrow with it being a bank holiday weekend - people will be getting ready to go away for the weekend etc.
