Also Dr Hilary standing up to be interviewed was just odd, he felt like a spare part.
Yes, that was odd. When they want to speak to a correspondent in the studio they should just evict one of the 4 and let them come and sit at the desk.
It did look a little weird but that's because we're not use to the setup GMB is adopting. I like to think of it as 'he was bringing the facts to the table'. Much better than a DTL to the newsroom.
On the other hand, ITV should use the studio as the election night studio - how good would that be!?
This is probably going to open a whole can of proverbial but I think with the right colour/lighting changes it would make a nice news set full stop.
Barco is a company who make numerous types of displays and ancillary equipment. You can get Barco LCDs.
Thank you, i wasn't aware of that. As i know the newswall in ST7 was made up of LCD's, i was unsure of the ones used in ST3 as they had bother producing yellow, and orange and looked muddy pink.
I've watched the show for an hour or so both days so far and I have to say, I think it is brilliant. The content is punchy, George Clooney and Robbie Williams stories might be showbiz fluff, but it's water cooler stuff and I can't see them losing it.
The biggest revelation is Charlotte Hawkins, however. An absolute natural.
Oh and I really like the regional links. They've not worked 100% but it's something new so they'll get the hang of it.
I don't understand the argument that they'll drop it because it's too much work. It isn't really, and it is always worth bearing in mind that people working on these shows *do* actually take pride in making the show and don't just want to do as little work as possible.
The titles (both morning versions!), the link with the ITV branding, the in to the break sweep behind the presenters, the out of break music, graphics, ITV News association on the ticker - all just absolutely lovely. Just love the American influences. It really looks like a modern, confident show.
A shame really that the regions can't be permanently opted in, allowing for regional stories and weather on the lower thirds - would be a great one-up on the BBC. Also a shame the proper ending was for one day only (just like Daybreak did I think!), especially as a nice slower theme had been specifically written.
What they need now is late evening breaking news that will attract a surge of viewers to the tv in the morning to find out the latest, then really show off their skill at handling a developing news story.
And as others have said, hopefully the powers that be really do see this for the long haul and aren't tempted by a cosy red sofa and flowers come a wet and dark December morning.
Absolutely agree about giving it a proper ending - it's really jarring when they're crossing over to exactly the sort of thing the show is trying not to be. Lorraine's new studio doesn't help either - looks terribly dated, and even more so in comparison to GMB.
Regional Weather on the lower thirds would be great - not so fussed about news stories themselves and to be honest as I said pre-launch although this ticker is nicely design I don't really find myself reading it. It's something not absolutely necessary though but maybe they could introduce it just during the regional bulletins - probably get through 6-8 local towns during each one.
People on this thread keep saying what a revelation Charlotte Hawkins is. However she is by no means a revelation. Anyone watching sunrise on sky would know that herself and Eamonn have provided the best morning time offering for years. Charlotte has been excellent for a number of years and is vastly experienced despite her youthful looks.

It actually wouldn't be impossible to have regional content on the ticker, via some form of RSS feed that each regional centre could update.
I agree that a major night time story would be a good test for them. The only problem is, at present they fly from one story to the next in the space of seconds. For a big story, would they abort the format and become a rolling news service?

I very rarely watch Sky News so I was actually unknown to Charlotte, so it's a new face on me. But I find her very appealing and seems to be a very good signing for GMB. I also had no idea she had presented Merdian Tonight for 3 years before moving to Sky.
Local weather would be ideal and probably easier than local news as the latter actually needs someone to type it in and mix it in with national news. The weather is already compiled and is there, they just need to sift out the relevant ones.
What technical reasons do we think being permanently opted out would cause?
On a separate note, how many regions do they have for news at Breakfast time these days? How many links does Ben have to do, it shouldn't take that long to rattle them all off.

Westcountry
Anglia
Has Border got their own or is it a Border/Tyne Tees pan region?
