Ratz, surely.

At least he'd be used to working with Andi Peters, although might be disappointed with the somewhat less iconic building in the opening titles compared to Live & Kicking.

I think the titles would look better without the year, both in voiceover and on screen. They could possibly include the year for the first week back from the Christmas break, for example, but not all the time. It's unneccessary.

Definitely agree with VMPhil about the year being totally unnecessary in the opening titles and voiceover, except for at the start of a new year when it would actually be quit helpful. But otherwise I think the opening titles and theme music are pretty much spot on. Short and quite stunning.

Loving the mock by the way.

The bigger problem with the titles, IMO, is that they voiceover is emphasising 'ITV Studios' yet the ITV logo is covering the studies in the sweeping shot, and then just after the ITV logo disappears, the GMB one comes up.

Surely if they were going to CGI part of the open, it would have made more sense for the view of the tower to pan down, rather than up, and then cross zoom in, through one of the doors as the announcer says 'This is Good Morning Britain'.

Personally, I don't think the ITV logo obscuring the building is an issue at all. If anything, it helps link the brand and channel to the building, which don't forget many viewers outside of our circles, may not necessarily know is the ITV building. If anything, the way it's been shot makes it look quite beautiful. Iconic even. I love it.

I don't understand the debate relating to having the year on the titles, as it makes next to no difference whether the year is there or not, so why has such a fuss been made over it, to the extent of a mock of the titles without the year on? I don't know about you, but I could imagine the titles without the year on without a mock to show it...

I've clipped up the review of Good Morning Britain on Richard Bacon's show, with Helen Warner also featuring, if you'd like to listen.

https://soundcloud.com/andrew-connell-1/bbc-radio-5-live-richard-bacon-good-morning-britain-review

Helen Warner talked about the breakfast TV 'entrenchment' of an audience, radio versus TV, the inspiration from American morning shows, Susanna Reid, news coverage, and some viewer comments. All in all, quite an interesting listen.

Helen Warner being very careful not to say they got the whole idea from GMB/Today to avoid litigation.

I like that the regional bulletins are longer but I can't help but think that 26 minutes is too long to wait for their first feed. In the morning, most people want to know the news headlines, whether or not they will need an umbrella and what the traffic is like before they head out of the door to work. The US morning shows have the luxury of an hour-long local newscast as their lead-in. Most people in the US get their local news and traffic updates then and they are updated regularly during commercial breaks with a cut-in. This is a criticism of BBC Breakfast as much as Good Morning Britain. They are both guilty of not providing enough time for local updates.

I think this is a bit of a strange comment, especially the one about viewers having to wait 26 minutes for the first regional bulletin. Most viewers aren't watching the whole show from 6am and if they keep them at a regular time then viewers can build them into their schedule. As it happens, I get up at 7.10 and by the time I've had a shower and got my breakfast, more or less the first thing I see on Breakfast is the regional news at 7.25. I've not been sitting there waiting for it, but I know what time it's on. There's no benefit from the Daybreak schedule, when it was on at ten past the hour, compared to 25 past the hour on Good Morning Britain. If anything it's better because it's next to the top of the hour so it's a more prominent slot and more people will see them.

Also I don't think the local updates are as important as you suggest, most of the news is left over from the previous day, it's certainly not a priority slot for the broadcasters. I think the regions are too big for much travel news to be that relevant in any case, other than London I think outside the major motorways it's pretty trivial stuff and better served via local radio. If you're still watching after about 7.45 I doubt your commute is that long anyway.

I would probably keep the year on screen, but definitely drop it from the VO.

I didn't realise there was a debate, it was just a thought I had whilst watching this morning and wanted to post it here.

I only made the mock because it was something simple to do in Paint, and in my head I believed it visually would look better on screen without the year. I wanted to see if that thought was right. It's not like I spent a few hours on it.

Seems like some people still need safe areas.

Seems like some people still need safe areas.

If you think about it though, people are more likely to have GMB on in their kitchen/ bedroom, where from my experience there is an older telly, so the use of older safe areas is more important. Whilst I personally prefer the graphics fitting in wider margins, I can see the issue here, which might be worth correcting.

They really are getting their money's worth with all the screens, especially the old weather one. As others have said, there was no need to get new ones as the current ones they were using were fine. The Daybreak news desk screen is now at the interview point area, and funnily enough i thought the blue backdrop was the old newswall barcos.
