He's bitter because he was dropped from the lorraine newspaper review in August 2012, he kept quiet during the worst era of daybreak. I wouldn't care for his opinions on anything.

I posed the above to him and he responded.

Least he's honest;) although, he's a 'professional' and shouldn't take it to heart. Rolling Eyes

800K is a decent start. if it maintains this for a fortnight it can build on that. it's a third up on Daybreak which considering what it's coming from isn't to be decried.

Lorraine and Aled were getting around that this time last year (750k with zero publicity). That was when ITV launched their first review into its failure.
The 600k average includes all the holidays and Bank Holidays when the ratings dive because the kids are not in school. There is a reason they launched this Monday instead of last week!

Helen Warner has said numerous times that ITV are 'in this for the long game', so I'm sure that her and the team are all quite content.

Where have I heard that before? On current performance, it's unlikely she'll be around for the 'long game' Have you seen the ratings for Weekend with Aled or Loose Women lately? Sad

Please don't get me wrong - I liked it. It's a change that has long be required to broadcasting in this country. But those of us who take an interest in these things, those of us who like the graphics, the set, the music, etc., look at the broadcast differently to Joe and Joanna Bloggs. They are both trying to get out of the front door and get to work without hitting a traffic jam and one of them is probably thinking "Can I risk putting the washing out on the line before I go to work or is it going to rain?" How it goes down with the public in general is entirely different to how we feel about it.

This. It's the kind of show I'd expect many tv forumers to make with zero regards to the actual audience.
I'm guessing ITV are pretty pleased with this rating, given lack of promo and Daybreak's abysmal figures. The Mirror are being quite fair, pointing out that its improved by a third, but Daily Mail are flat out saying it's awful in comparison to BBC Breakfast.

It hasn't improved by a third. Your comparing a 4 month average including holidays and badly rated Fridays with a normal working Monday. In fact if it looses 50k tomorrow, it'll be down year on year from Daybreak. Won't that be a headline for the Daily Mail!

Also Dr Hilary standing up to be interviewed was just odd, he felt like a spare part.

Yes, that was odd. When they want to speak to a correspondent in the studio they should just evict one of the 4 and let them come and sit at the desk.

But you have to remember that the new programme is not going to suddenly grow in popularity over night. The ratings have slumped in the last year, and It's going to this next year that shows whether or not the new show is a success. ITV won't be cutting the show before the next year is up. Its important, however, to see whether the bosses make changes to the GMB making it more Daybreak and GMTV, rather than improving the format to meet the viewers demands.

It did look a little weird but that's because we're not use to the setup GMB is adopting. I like to think of it as 'he was bringing the facts to the table'. Much better than a DTL to the newsroom.

On the other hand, ITV should use the studio as the election night studio - how good would that be!?

Well, Weekend is a completely different guise. It's a weekend programme on ITV, something which they haven't had established for years and it had no promotion - I'm not surprised figures were poor.
As for Loose Women, I admire Helen's work, its about time the programme was changed from z-list drivel into a one talking about important topics of the day.

Helen was on 5Live with Richard Bacon and again reiterated her points about 'they know' that its going to be a long game and they're ready for that.

In terms of the ratings for GMB's launch 800,000 with 19% share was a reasonable start given that it was a soft launch compared to Daybreak. It has to be remembered that Daybreak's overall reach has fallen by 20% in the past year. So even if it's only up 50,000 year on year it's still an improvement. The peak rating of 1.2 million was the highest the slot has achieved in November last year. The share is the highest achieved since the BBC February strikes of last year.

Despite, the broadly positive reviews there has been a very mixed or negative response to the show from core audience. The key question will be can the new format retain the boost in viewing numbers. The next few days and weeks will be interesting to see how they pan out. Will the viewing figures stabilise and can they build an audience. The run up to summer will be tough as Cando says the ratings will take a dip during holidays.

I just thought - with it being Bank Holiday on Monday, I wonder if we'll end up with some kind of John Stapleton/Ranvir Singh/Kate Garraway/Who-The-Hell-Else-Can-We-Get-In?-Is-Gamal-Fahnbulleh-Busy-Today? mash-up at the desk, or whether we'll see the 'normal' four with the show being in its infancy.

I can't see Kate or John in the new set-up - especially John. I can't see Aled in that role, either, had he been a part of GMB. I reckon Matt would have been perfect, though. I think it's such a shame he's no longer with ITV Breakfast. I found him to be the best presenter on Daybreak and think he would have been a brilliant addition to GMB.

After the second day, I am enjoying it very much. I like the mixture of the presenters going through the headlines, it brings the team to the audience, and shows them working together rather than the years of leaving the headlines to one person, and the others distancing themselves from news.

I do find the entertainment news within the headlines a bit odd, maybe it's more where they're included, but I do feel like it should be left to the entertainment updates at 6:50 & 7:50.

I do feel for Andi Peters, and do think that he's a very competent presenter, but the feature is just odd. I'd prefer them to be doing surprises for deserving people rather than give this random person £50 or a brolly.

One odd thing that nobody has mentioned (as far as I can see, apologies if it has) is the use of the Aston during interviews, especially entertainment guests. Yesterday with Paul O'Grady was a prime example saying that it was his first interview since his health scare. Why it needed to stay on through out felt strange.

I echo what has been said about Dr Hilary. It was as though he was invited to the party, but there was no room left.

I didn't understand why they didn't sit in the interview chairs (presumably as it was an editor adding detail rather than an interview), or sit on the sofa. Maybe one way that they can get around the standing issue is if the presenter joins Dr Hilary at the small weather screen with facts on the screen.
It felt as though he walked in through the door on the right and walked straight back out. At least Richard Arnold is allowed on to the sofa.

As for the weather, the same applies. It doesn't appear as bad as we're used to Laura standing up, and there's a reason why she does. I like how she's seen chatting, usually to Sean at the top of the hour, and walks to her tiny screen.

Where did her old screen go?

If it's going to be a small screen, could they not use the portrait oriantated screen that they have to make the map seem bigger next to her? It'll be interesting to see Alex cover with that screen. I don't know why, but I feel that Alex would fit in better with this team too.

Which leads on to cover. As much as John is very competent, and an excellent news presenter, I don't know how he would work in this current set up. I could be totally wrong, but Matt Barbet would have been the better choice IMO.
I did like the suggestion of Matt Teale though, though it could mean that we lose him from Central.
