As for Kaplinski - think they've the female stand-ins more than covered really, but could certainly see ITV News folk (a bit further down the pecking order) drafted in more for this than it's predecessors, or perhaps more senior presenters joining the team in the event of a big story.

Like who? I can't really think of anyone unless they perhaps used a regional presenter like Tony Morris.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like you say, female stand-ins are more than covered, however I would have said Charlene White. She seems to be growing a lot on London tonight and was great co-host of ITV news with Al.

Male stand-ins are rather more limited I think. I certainly can not imagine John Stapleton in this format. Obviously Alex Beresford is relief for weather, but maybe he could branch out?

I wonder if ITV might consider bringing Sky/ITV Central's Matt Teale to the table? After all he already has Breakfast TV experience?

Maybe even Chris Ship? The times I've seen him present the odd bulletins he seems to be pretty good IMO

This is not a fantasy rota thread.

I finally seen it this evening and heres my technical review, I've also done some HD screengrabs, I hope the broadcasters don't mind.

Its a nice attempt by ITV it is different and very american, not sure about the four presenter format, two strong presenters is enough it will be interesting how long that lasts, it didn't with RI:SE.

The titles are nice and sleek, looks like a bit of thought has gone in, not a fan of the music though i just dont think its very memorable, it sounds like an annoying wake up call Very Happy

Titles (from 6:00pm)

* * *

The regional news intro from Ben looked really really uncomfortable, its a good idea in theory, but in reality never works, it was so obvious it was played by the region as it was SD upscaled, in the London region they seemed to be an extra 0 on the clock.

*

The logo does not work with the lower thirds too much of a gap, its a bit mish mashy, curved logo and time with a straight edged graphic, the inset graphic next to the presenter is a good idea and its one of the graphics I actually thinks works well, interestingly the last digit on the clock seems to be faded out I don't know if its meant to be design, just a little oddity i've spotted whilst making these screengrabs.

Graphics and Astons

* *

Not sure about Laura's position right next to the desk, just does not look right, I like the way she walks towards the plasma, and those weather titles are not too bad but the weather graphics didnt look particularly sharp on that plasma screen.

The pace I think is ok, I think it needs to me faster then Breakfast which does plod on a little between items but I do agree this is not everyones cup of tea, its a bit more newsy which I like as well.

Andi Peters good grief that was awful, put him back in the CBBC broom cupboard where he belongs.

Overall a good start, you expect teething problems, I really think a generic regional intro will do though.

I noticed the faded last numeral too. I doubt it's particularly noticeable in SD, but I think it's just a (very small) mistake they've overlooked.

Yeah I dont think its that noticeable that all in SD, again it was something i spotted on close inspection, the average viewer is not going to do that or care about Smile

One comment which stands out and potentially kills three birds with one stone is axing the out of place Richard Arnold and Ross King and using Andi Peters as the entertainment reporter instead.

I agree this would be far better. Andi Peters is perfect for the role. Also I think the role of Hollywood correspondent is so unnecessary these days and is such a throwback to the shows they're trying to move on from.

Yes - the days of UK folk getting Hollywood news from LA correspondents is long gone - nowadays you can pretty much tweet the stars directly.

Again, I have the feeling that they increased the font size of the clock at the last minute, going by the smaller font size of the Granada and London regional clocks, which is why this wasn't noticed.

Personally I think they should ditch Andi Peters and Ross King who is - lets face it - a tiny bit of a waste of time and money, keeping Richard Arnold (well I had to compromise somewhere) because frankly I think he is the lesser of three evils and occasionally funny. Keep him on Lorraine, Loose Women and This Morning where he can do the competitions and showbiz stuff. He should only be used on GMB for a really big showbiz storyline. He should not have a regular slot on GMB and does not fit in. Sorry mumsnet Wink. And how about they do something with the competitions on GMB where they have a massive £1million prize, but just on special occasions like bank holidays or christmas/new year? Just an idea... They could make some dosh and not annoy us so much as it would not be daily!

Agreed, this thread and this forum is primarily aimed at presentation. The vast majority of readers find rota/presenter talk tedious. Whilst permitted it would be better placed in a separate presenter thread if you wish to create one. Talk of cover and alternate presenters with just 1 day of output exceeded banality and shouldn't be part of launch commentary.

The minute Andi Peters turns up with his wheel and Ross Kelly appear with that ludicrous 1980s Hollywood background any news viewer giving it a one off chance is lost.

Are they trying to win over news viewers? I appreciate they do do news in the 6am hour. However, as a regular Breakfast viewer, I decided to give it a shot. I'll be honest, I didn't really have high hopes but ended up more disappointed than expected. Maybe just very bad timing on my part, but I caught:

07.40 – 07.44: Adverts. Fine, it's ITV. " Good morning Britain” kinda patronising, but nice studio.
07.44 – 07.48: Awkward down-the-line with Britains Biggest Family. Not interested.
07.48: One minute news summary.
07.49: One minute weather, irritating sponsor message, and bizarre invitation to “check my blog to find out what an April shower is”.
07.50 – 07.54: "Paul O'Grady coming up", then wtf? More adverts
07.54 – 07.58: Richard Arnold talking about 1D. Completely pointless, then “Paul O’Grady on soon”
07.58 – 08.00: STV News. Actually pretty good and informative. Very pleasantly surprised.
08.00: “Good Morning Britain, George Cluny is engaged" <faux banter> "..and we meet the family with 16 kids from 12 mins ago”
08.03: Paul O'Grady's here, and Andi Peters says hello to a butcher.
08.03 - 08.05: To be fair, a decent piece on the house fire in Sheffield
08.05: Something about schoolkids I've not seen anywhere else today.
**Off to work**

An okay show, but not for me and certainly don't feel informed or having been given "the essentials" the promo promised. Still nowhere near as bad as some days on GMTV. So that's something.

Rota fans, I notice they've decided to change the presenter lineup tomorrow.

Seriously, looking forward to seeing how this develops. Hoping for tweaks rather than huge changes too soon.

The opening was very American, but I like it

Indeed.

The shoehorning in of what is essentially the ITV beakbumper at the very start must really please STV and UTV...

ITV-branded trailers have been used since the GMTV days (possibly before) so this isn't anything new. Despite what the EPG says, 6-9.25 isn't UTV/STV.
