Mark Austin or Alistair Stewart would be a big surprise!

Charlene White would also be a good choice IMO

That's interesting. I didn't think Channel TV's output was back-hauled to Chiswick/Leeds, I thought
they simply opt themselves out of a 'dirty' Meridian feed locally ?

I think it comes from Chiswick now, although even if it didn't their output still needs to be brought back to London for uplinking to Astra

I could see them drafting in at least one of the 'big four' from ITV News for election morning, or for big royal events.

As for Kaplinski - think they've the female stand-ins more than covered really, but could certainly see ITV News folk (a bit further down the pecking order) drafted in more for this than it's predecessors, or perhaps more senior presenters joining the team in the event of a big story.

Like who? I can't really think of anyone unless they perhaps used a regional presenter like Tony Morris.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like you say, female stand-ins are more than covered, however I would have said Charlene White. She seems to be growing a lot on London tonight and was great co-host of ITV news with Al.

Male stand-ins are rather more limited I think. I certainly can not imagine John Stapleton in this format. Obviously Alex Beresford is relief for weather, but maybe he could branch out?

Here's a side by side comparison of the 6am and 7am openings. Thanks to TV Live (and Rob) for the original footage.

I presume the 7am one is the clean one and the 6am one has had the sky altered in post production. Did 8am look different or was it the same as 7? I presume there'll be a winter 6am one too with it slightly darker again.

One comment which stands out and potentially kills three birds with one stone is axing the out of place Richard Arnold and Ross King and using Andi Peters as the entertainment reporter instead.

Why they continue to employ either of those two throwbacks is beyond me. Awful awful clichéd tripe. The Steve Wrights of Breakfast television.

I think it's a very bad omen that Andi Peters and his crass wheel of cash showed up on the first day. If anything I'd expect them to launch with their best stuff and sneak the competitions and trash in a bit later when the audience has settled in. Very worrying that they're going all-in with a competition heavy show. And there is nothing entertaining about seeing people in a market win £50, or them wishing their grandchildren good morning.

Also, Ben's prerecorded regional links add absolutely nothing to the show. I can't see how it's better than them saying "now the local news headlines from around the UK" and playing a sting. It didn't help that Ben had clearly rattled them all off one after another first thing in the morning. He sounded very bored in the Merdian clip posted earlier.

I agree this would be far better. Andi Peters is perfect for the role. Also I think the role of Hollywood correspondent is so unnecessary these days and is such a throwback to the shows they're trying to move on from.

I would say both skies have been added/edited in post.

I wonder if ITV might consider bringing Sky/ITV Central's Matt Teale to the table? After all he already has Breakfast TV experience?

I've just gone through the joy of using ITV Player to find out for you, it's the same as 7am.

Maybe even Chris Ship? The times I've seen him present the odd bulletins he seems to be pretty good IMO
