The first show was quite good, I like the opening and music, and the pace of it all.
Only things I did not like was the news ticker, the colour is a bit dull for a news ticker.
In the parts when they went to the market, it was very quick, reminded me of that news reporter joke from Family Guy when he rushes everything. And the money wheel thing is cheap.
Also the fact that they say "good morning Britain" at the start, like today, when you have a headline with five people dead, does not mix well together. "Good morning Britain, five people have died.....".
I think beyond the presentation the comparison with the US shows is misleading. With the exception of CBS, the US morning shows are content light beyond belief. Last week GMA had a dog performing tricks on the desk during the 'serious' news slot, and had the presenters wearing Spiderman outfits moments before transitioning into the South Korea ferry story.
Content / style
- 'Breaking Overnight' is a favourite of the US channels. I guess it hooks dummies in, but should I be surprised that 'things have happened since I went to bed'? No. It's just news.
- The Leeds fire story is big (ish) and yes it happened overnight. Will be interested to see whether they routinely label normal stories as 'developing' or 'breaking', when they're not.
- Can't stand Susannah. Head girl. Charlotte much better.
- I know they have to do it for ratings, but cash giveaways. Ugh. Feels so 90s and irrelevant.
Set
- Nice. A cross between Today (wood, glass, living room) and CNN's New Day (cityscape, pointless ticker)
Opener
- OMG is it 2014? Sometimes I need to remind myself what day it is at 6am, but the year? Straight out of Today/GMA. Kill it.
- I like the music, the sequence, the look and feel.
Graphics
- Overload, but fresh. It's not glossy and over-stylised, and seems functional. Also doesn't take up half the screen a la GMA/Today.
- Those wipes are straight off Today.
- Over-animated. The weather bug is distracting - doesn't need to be.
I can't decide if i hate it or if i just want to hate it.
They've gone from having no style or substance to shiny plastic pretend style bursting out of its ample cleavage and insipid content disguised with smug simpering... or is that just Susanna Reid.
The graphics are messy, the presentation and terminology is very American, everything seems rushed, and the pace is unrelenting. I hate it.
And hopefully enough people hate it with me so this style is killed off before it can spread. "Happening now"? No thank you.
Glad to see you're in the minority here.
Well if he is in the minority on tv forum that means that he is in the majority in the real world.
This is not going to work. After the ratings failure revamp of Loose Women, this is another misstep by Helen Warner. Like her days at C4 she just doesn't get her audience. Media students will love it, the general audience no.
Looks like there's one area of the set we haven't seen properly yet - which I assume is the performance area, just about visible in this grab from TV Live:
I like it, I think it fits in with the whole ITV channel look and also like the way Lorraine has kept the daybreak theme with a bit of a refresh and her set is great.
....Is it CGI though? How did they make the tower look so clean and glossy, when we all know it's a drab concrete monster from the 60s? ...
I'm not sure where you get your information from. The building was constructed in the 1970's and is coated with millions of small whitish italian terrazzo tiles.
All these reporters and TV addicts comparing it to American TV need to realise that most of the Joe Public in this country will have no idea what American breakfast shows are like...
