The simple solution would be for ITV Breakfast to commission a Scotland programme for the day, and award the commission contract to STV.

Licence and viewers satisfied.

That may sound simple enough – and logistically it probably is, but given that ITV is still trying to establish the GMB brand, I can’t see it ever agreeing to the wholesale outsourcing of its breakfast programme to STV (even if only for one day). I think it would be far too unsettling for viewers in the rest of the UK to be confronted with an entirely different breakfast programme at time of the day.

We’ve all seen how difficult it has been to launch the breakfast service on Channel 3 (TV-am, GMTV and Daybreak all lost audiences and struggled to gain acceptance from viewers at the beginning). The sudden appearance of unfamiliar STV presenters, studios and graphics etc, would just serve to undermine any progress that might have been made with the latest incarnation of Good Morning Britain.

I realise ITV has opted to take STV’s overnight results programme, but that’s far from ideal, and has certainly ruffled some feathers at ITN. But I think an overnight results programme is a world away from breakfast television, when audiences want some sense of routine and familiarity …

Plus STV are just terrible in general...! Sky Channel 973 for me.

Why are they extending only in the event of a yes vote? Surely a no vote/any outcome at all is worthy of an extended programme.

Yes vote means history is changed, no vote means the battle between Westminster and Holyrood continues...

No, history has already happened..... it can't be changed. Wink

Laughing Hahaha, well a revision...

Yes vote means the day will go down in history, no vote means the battle between Westminster and Holyrood continues...

Why would the rest of the UK be confronted by an entirely different breakfast programme if ITV commissioned a alternative programme for Scotland for the day?

Personally, I see no problem with stv having their own results program in the morning. Although, there should be an option of GMB as well. I believe breakfast is being shown on bbc2. In theory this couldn't happen with itv.

I don't understand why such a fuss has been made about Scotland having their own results programme - the focus of a Scottish programme and one for the rest of the UK would obviously be vastly different, so it makes sense...

GMB could go on ITV2 I guess, but Sky viewers have the option of which they want to watch anyway.

STV presenters, STV studio set, STV graphics. I think all of that would be quite unsettling for viewers in England, Wales and NI switching on to ITV first thing in the morning and expecting GMB to pop up?

They couldn't do that on a weekday, as there are no English regional opts on BBC Two. Breakfast is not being shown tomorrow. It just looks like a continuation of 'Scotland Decides' on network BBC One through until 9:00. BBC One Scotland also continue with their results programme.

Looks like an edited opening could be in the line for tomorrow
