You might not agree but it is still early days and it can take a while for a programme to get settled into a successful format. Very few successful daily shows appear on air fully formed, it took TVam, GMTV, This Morning etc years to settle down.

TV-am and GMTV didn't gradually settle down into a successful format. They had no choice but to heavily reformat to the point where they were practically different programmes, and only then did they become a success. If you're suggesting that they are examples of programmes that gave time to 'bed in', you couldn't be further from the truth.

This Morning was pretty much a success from day one.

I'm actually of the opinion the GMB is the refreshing change ITV, and if not Breakfast TV in the UK needs...
I'm totally agreeing with oilyrag and don't feel he was being particularly personal, and with him working in that area his remarks tend to carry more weight!

I think ten points to ITV to try something so different and challenging- only problem with it is ... Andi Peters, but I suppose thats obvious Wink

Hello again everybody by the way- back from 10 yrs in Belgium and lurking online there Wink

According to someone I know who works very closely with sitting duck , the refreshed "Lorraine" theme was pitched by sitting duck as a jazzy and more upbeat piano rendition of the GMB theme quite similar to how the Lorraine theme was to the Daybreak 2012 music. But itv rejected it and requested an updated version of the previous theme , baffles me why they would want anything similar to Daybreak lurkin around especially with a set change and new titles..

I think some of the comments were entirely offensive and personal. Let's hope he doesn't work at the Duty Office, as God knows what would happen if a 'lesser informed' commoner phoned in with an opinion.

To clearly differentiate Lorraine from Good Morning Britain perhaps?

As much as I want to love GMB, I just can't. Yes its a bit more newsy than Daybreak, but it comes across as diluted with no depth, as though they think they can rely on the flashy graphics and fake chemistry to make them a hit. Its a bit inconsistent on a daily basis; yes there's more news content some days, but on others it's fluffy. It should not be a hard news programme, but I will never digest Ben Shephard telling me about the middle east. Also, could it be any more obvious that Susanna's brief was 'engage with the audience, make them feel you're a fun person who gives a damn about the likes of Bieber's antics'. Too commercial and cheap for me.

So, how about an 'ITV News AM', a programme that has the same authoritative news and features feel of regional news. Containing a bit more speed and life than 'Breakfast'. Ranvir and Stapleton at the helm. Simple and straightforward without the gimmicky graphics. Save your celebs lifestyle nonsense for Lorraine

They all still had to develop and bed in, it wasn't just a case of a big relaunch and bang, a massive success. They both had a relaunch (one a bit more ramshackle and piecemeal than the other) but they still had to be tweaked till they got it right.

This Morning might have done well at the start (although up against schools programmes and pages from Ceefax what wouldn't?) but it too still had to develop and settle down.

Oh grow up. I prefer reasoned debate, not having to resort to belittling insults because you disagree with someone. That is the reason I'm leaving this god awful thread. I'll come back at Christmas and we'll see where GMB is at.

GMB does need time to bed in, remember 2 months into the original Daybreak the set was changed, albeit flowers and 'warm GMTV colors'. The format had changed quite a lot since launch day too.
The transition between the end of Daybreak and start of GMB was handled much better, with previews to the new show, and the fact it didn't feel bitter either. I wouldn't say ITV have got it completley right but compared to previous incarnations of their morning shows, this one has the best chance, they have tried and tested breakfast tv presenters and better content. It's no where near perfect, but with the tweeks they're making, it's making it much more watchable, they've done right with launching it early into the year, as others have said.. It gives them a chance to change the things that aren't working, and to try new things.
As i've said,It's their best chance yet, as going to the past for inspiration e.g DB v2 didn't work for them, although i did like that.
