Im not sure there are many normal jobs that require people to be awake at 3.00am every morning.

I can think of quite a few - though it depends what you mean by normal I expect.

Security guards, doctors, nurses, paramedics, firefighters, police officers, rail workers, bus drivers, taxi drivers, long distance lorry drivers, retail staff (long opening hours mean shelf stacking happens overnight in many cases) all spring to mind. These are all pretty normal jobs that can involve shift working at 0300...

Doing a night shift is considerably different to working from 3 am in a role like this. Whilst I agree that there are jobs out there that require hours that not many people would willing work, there are allowances. You should also recognise that surely nobody, even some of the self-ritious lonely members of TV Forum, can dictate the time off of the presenters on a brand new programme.

Does anyone think Laura should sit at the desk when there is a presenter down in the studio?

If the UK model is based on NBC's Today in the States then it would have made more sense for her to be part of the whole show as Al is in America?

Let Laura have a go at presenting I say. It could be just the break GMB needs Smile

I don't think its going to suddenly attract a whole load of new viewers by putting a weather presenter on the desk. On BBC Breakfast (where Carol is a major role in the presenting team) it could work really well... but I feel Laura lacks any personality, at least at this moment in time! I wouldn't be opposed this change, but don't know who you'd remove from the line up!

I'm not sure about her having a 'major role', but Carol Kirkwood is one of the longest serving regulars on BBC Breakfast, and since the move to Salford she always appears in the studio whenever they have a special programme, such as an anniversary.

She also presents from regular OB locations (Chelsea Flower Show, Wimbledon etc) and is very much a favourite among viewers. I think she's also presented other programmes for BBC NC such as the Weather Show: so she's more than just an ordinary BBC weather presenter.

Carol Kirkwood does not have any more of a role on Breakfast than Laura does on GMB. She doesn't lack personality, she doesn't get a chance to express it. She is a weather presenter at the end of the day. Carol's personality does come through because they often chat with her. But with 4 main presenters, it is harder to do that on Good Morning Britain. Although with Sean out of the studio, I think Barney has a good point in that it would be nice with her in Sean's seat to have some chat with her etc. and it would pad out the desk so that the main area looks symmetrical again! It wouldn't gain viewers but it would be nice to have her there at the TOTH, and other bits. Not doing news though.

I think it's because of the layout of the computers, but when there are just three presenters, the desk doesn't balance up right.

I think Kate Garraway has settled in to GMB, she's still has a laugh and everything, but she is back to how she was as a newsreader in the early 2000's.

Ticker left the screen for the weather and hasn't re-appeared.
