It's amazing that this Lorraine programme has got on air really - what you're watching is being played out live from ITN! Apparently the tape got there with only minutes to go and transmission were only able to see and hear it within 60 seconds of the programme's on air time.

Lucky someone thought to grab the tape on the way out the building.... lucky it's still on tape!

Presumably the tape is an SD back up copy, I would have thought the HD version is only in file form ?

In my day the regional news opts were controlled from the GMTV/GMB gallery - the gallery 'panel' controlled a 2by1 switch at each local news inject point so it wasn't actually that easy for a local news inject point to insert itself into the incoming GMTV/GMB feed without physical cross patching etc. I suspect not much has changed. So if there's no-one in the gallery ... Chiswick never had panel.

So does that mean that during ITV Breakfast the network reverts to how it used to be, each region gets a feed from the South Bank which it opts into (controlled from London) rather than being a contribution into Chiswick/Leeds?

Presumably a single gallery transmits the whole breakfast slot as a live programme and a recorded Lorraine is just treat as a selection of long VTs to play out, particularly as they have/had live news/weather inserts from GMB.

Makes sense.

Makes me wonder what TV will do for backups once tape finally dies in the next few years. Files are great but not as universal as a digibeta

MXFs on external hard drives? maybe.

I wonder if today wasn't a bank holiday, might we have got something from ITN? There'd be an anchor at GIR due to the London regional news. Would it be easy enough to produce an impromptu few hours of rolling news?

I doubt it unless they could somehow integrate the packages from GMB. There would have to be scripts, packages ready at ITN to play. A five minute news update would be fairly easy but that would complicate the schedule more.

The early opt outs are generally done on very minimal staffing, so probably not feasible.

On the EPG Loose Women is on. Will this still be happening I wonder. Definitely seems live looking from the description.

It's a pre-recorded special with the panelists kids.

Surprised it's not played out from Chiswick to be honest. Guess it's done from London because of the clock?
