It'll just be a feel good Christmas Day show - and this year I think keeping news on Christmas Day to the absolute minimum is a must. There is just no need for it - there is nothing that can happen on the day that we can't wait another day to hear.

Completely agree - I'm fairly sure that there's been an ITV News bulletin on Christmas morning in the past few years (may have been at 9.25 am), so they can cut away to the presenter in the studio if a very major story did happen to break.

I’m sure it could be arranged with ITN to insert headlines in to the Christmas programme. They could even have a recorded loop of the corner screens as a background to keep the branding, they could do explain to the viewers that they’re not there so ITV News are providing the headlines or for one day they may not have any at all.

It would be nice if the ticker could be generated to show Christmas messages for people during the show.

Do we know who will host on Christmas Day? Will Piers & Susannah record it but then have the week off leading up the day?

They recorded it last week.
(As seen in these pictures posted by the director. The title card on the screens says Merry Christmas above the logo and a view of the autocue script is there too if you zoom in.)

Didn't the Big Breakfast include live bulletins in the Christmas shows? I remember one year during the pre-records Johnny would throw to the news introducing Jasmine Lowson and somebody else would be "live" in her place!

Sometimes. But the Big Breakfast would often record two whole weeks of output to cover Christmas and New Year, so usually in the run up to Christmas they'd have live news within a pre-recorded show to keep up a pretence of being live, and then in Christmas week itself they tended to revert to generic "headlines of the year" style reports so that the whole show could be recorded. These were actually done by Phil Gayle on a new set constructed in the hallway in at least one year.

Not quite. The show was live until either Christmas Eve or the Friday directly before a weekend Christmas Day. Pre-records continued until Jan 2nd or, if there was a bank holiday Monday after a weekend new year, it'd be live again on the Tuesday.

The only pre-recs within which they ever risked live news inserts with a named newsreader were the shows on a bank holiday Monday after new year.

The ITN thing - NBC TODAY does that, and it could probably easily be arranged.

Piers and Susanna hosting, they’ve already recorded it I believe, as mentioned earlier in the thread.

Is GMB prerecorded or live on Xmas day?. I like to watch the utv opt out.

And even if it was live there wouldn't be regional news!

Will be interesting to see if the Lockdown Format returns tomorrow or Wednesday in view of tonight’s announcement.
