Personally I think there enough depression in the country so a bit of a laugh is welcome in my book.

The events this week on GMB do make me wonder if GMB is trying to be a grown-up creche. Not content with guests throwing balls across the set previously, there’s now guests throwing custard pies at presenters. As entertaining as it sounds, it doesn’t do the show’s reputation (or what little it had left) any favours.

And to think Kate Garraway and Ben Shepherd aren’t seen as ‘heavyweight enough’ for GMB.

It was the end of the show, they have loads of serious debates and so it was nice to have a bit of fun at the end. Anyway, I'm sure seeing Piers Morgan getting pied in the face brightened up many people's day!

It wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to imagine similar appearing on BBC Breakfast so I can’t see viewers turning off in disgust.

Looks very staged, but amusing nonetheless.

Piers is now off for 2 weeks, and Susanna is back after half term. Richard Madeley may be back at some point, the tabloids were reporting a while ago that he was going to be Piers’ regular stand in. Kate is also supposedly going into the jungle, so if she is she’ll be away for a month or so from early November. Doesn’t Ben also film something in the autumn?

These abscenes mean there will probably be some shows without a newsreader over the next few months. They seem incredibly hesitant to allow the likes of Louisa James and Phillipa Thompson to fill in when required. If Sean is unable to fill in, they don’t seem especially fussed about having a newsreader.

Piers Morgan seems to have the best contract with ITV. The Johnny Carson style contract. Three day work week for just 37 weeks of the year. I wonder what his salary is for GMB?

Is contact will also no doubt cover Life Stories and the documentaries he makes as well

Is Life Stories still going? Usually when he is off ITV have sent him to meet a serial killer.

I would guess he’s not paid as much as you’d think he’s paid. He does seem to genuinely enjoy what he does.

I agree. Also, when you think about it, he's not really in a position to name his price. If he quit ITV who else would take him on in such a prominent role?

Yes, because he burnt his bridges in the US when his CNN show tanked, and he enraged the gun toting hardliners which his gun regulation speeches. I do not see him venturing back on US television much.

According to recent sources Piers Morgan earns close to £1 million a year under his current new contract with ITV which is for GMB, Life Stories and his documentaries. Susanna Reid (in line with the awful gender pay gap that seems to be happening in every broadcaster) in her last contract was earning around £450,000-£500,000 a year for her GMB role. It says that has increased now to £600,000. Piers gets more now because of Life Stories and his documentaries.

If Piers and Susanna were equally as famous, then absolutely they should be paid equally. However, Piers is a far bigger name and is known by many more people. Therefore, you’d expect his pay to be higher. Susanna has certainly benefitted from her move to ITV, financially and in terms of how famous she is. Louise Minchin gets less than £150,000, so I imagine Susanna would have been earning around the same at the BBC.
